Job Summary

The Senior Controls Engineer will be responsible for independently applying engineering principles to all aspects of the design, programming, installation, startup, and troubleshooting of automated industrial control systems. The Engineer will have deep and broad expertise in process automation for chemical plants using DCS, PLC, SCADA, and other control systems.

Job Description
  • Drive a culture of "Do It Safe, Do It Right the First Time" through daily actions and communication
  • Develop, implement, and support plant control system hardware, software, and field instrumentation in an efficient and safe manner
  • Troubleshoot control system hardware and software and implement corrective actions independently
  • Actively participate in Design Reviews and PHAs as a team member or leader
  • Configure and program PLC (Programmable Logic Controller), DCS (Distributed Control System), and SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) control systems
  • Work with highly hazardous chemicals at a manufacturing facility
  • Establish engineering design basis and assist with design documentation, including PFDs, P&IDs, equipment and instrument specification sheets, process packages, MOCs, interlock matrices, and functional design specifications, for both new and existing facilities while following department standards
  • Assist with loop tests and interlock tests for new processes and yearly ISO testing for calibration and interlock checks
  • Successfully complete all assigned training and tasks
  • Understand electrical distribution and power loading in industrial control systems
Skills Required
  • 10+ years of relevant experience, including PLC/DCS programming for chemical plant design and operation, as well as process data collection and distribution for wider corporate use
  • Working knowledge of Layers of Protection Analysis (LOPA) and experience designing and implementing systems with appropriate Safety Integrity Levels (SILs)
  • Experience in the manufacture or use of ultrahigh-purity materials supplied to the semiconductor industry is preferred
  • Knowledge and experience of instrument engineering
  • Knowledge of applicable codes and standards for process control hardware and software, such as UL listing and NEC, as applied to hazardous materials handling and manufacturing
  • Experience with Siemens automation systems hardware and TIA Portal software
  • Experience with Rockwell Control Logix/Compact Logix hardware and software
  • Experience with Emerson Proficy HMIs
  • Ability to develop and interpret electrical schematics
  • Experience developing and deploying Ethernet-based industrial networks
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with AVEVA InTouch HMI and Historian
  • Experience with AVEVA System Platform
  • Experience in a rapid-growth environment
  • Trained in standard procedures for safe gas and chemical handling
  • Chemical plant operation experience strongly preferred
  • Strong organizational and planning skills with the ability to multitask
  • Team player with leadership abilities
  • Self-starter with the ability to perform well under pressure and continuously changing priorities
  • Problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Education/Training/Certifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent
Additional Requirements
  • Must be able to pass a drug screening and criminal background check
  • Valid employment authorization in the U.S.
Pay Rate/Salary
  • $100.00/hr actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as education, experience, skillset, and/or location
