Overview
The Systems administrator – level 2 coordinates cross-functional efforts to set up and manage Linux and Windows systems in production lines, ensuring system security, high availability, and performance. This role works with Testing Engineers (TE), Debug Engineers (PE), Quality Engineers (QE), IT Engineers (ITE), IT department, Electrical Engineers (EE), Software Engineers (SW), Engineering Product Managers (EPM), Manufacturing Program Managers (MPMs), and customers to manage Pre-executable Environment (PXE) servers and infrastructure for various projects at Quanta Manufacturing Fremont (QMF).
The role mitigates risks, delivers initial setup on time, monitors infrastructure health, and resolves incidents or issues.
This position is part of the Engineering Services team, which supports engineering and operation teams with technical expertise in Linux and Windows system administration.
It is an onsite role in Fremont, CA and includes on-call duty for incident handling.
ResponsibilitiesKey responsibilities:
- Linux and Windows system administration:
Installing, configuring, and upgrading Linux distributions (e.g., Ubuntu) boot image (virtual image and ISO image), iPXE, disk drive formatting and cloning, file system partitioning, and virtual file system management. - Security hardening:
Implementing security protocols, managing firewall settings, and applying security patches to protect sensitive data. - User management:
Creating, updating, and managing user accounts, groups, and permissions. Hands-on with IAM. - Server storage and networking:
Managing disk storage and configuring network services (NFS, DNS, SSH), VLAN and switch routing at level 2 and level 3. - System monitoring:
Using tools to monitor performance and uptime to guarantee system availability. - Software services installation and automation:
Developing and maintaining scripts (Bash, Python) to automate routine tasks; CRON jobs;
Ansible/Jenkins scripting. - Back-up & Recovery:
Implementing backup solutions and creating disaster recovery plans. - Cloud – major public clouds and private open-source cloud solutions. Cluster technologies include lifecycle management of Virtual Machines (VM), Docker and related tooling.
- Install and set up physical servers as PXE servers.
- Configure and set up OS, networking, disk file systems and software and services on the PXE servers.
- 24x7 monitoring of PXE infrastructure and incident response.
- Identifying and resolving hardware, software, and networking issues.
- Serve as the central point of contact for all PXE lines.
- Collaborate with internal customers to align on requirements, schedules, and deliverables.
- Proven ability to manage large-scale Linux and Windows server systems.
- Strong understanding of server hardware architecture, system-level validation, and the product lifecycle.
- Experience coordinating across multi-functional teams such as engineering, manufacturing, quality, and customer-facing groups.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills in a dynamic environment.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or an equivalent discipline.
- 3+ years of hands-on Linux server systems administration experience.
- Certification such as Linux system admin, networking and/or cyber security strongly preferred.
- Ability to walk and stand on cement floors for long periods.
- Ability to stand, stoop, bend and perform repetitive tasks.
- Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds at a time.
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
