Job Description & How to Apply Below
Overview
We're continuing to grow our IP department and looking for a Patent Agent or Patent Attorney to join us on a contract basis, with the intention to convert to full‑time employment. This person will play a key role in securing intellectual property protection for our innovations and helping us navigate the complexities of IP law. The role includes hybrid flexibility and the chance to work with a global team of inventors and legal professionals in the fast‑growing battery industry.
Whatthe role looks like day‑to‑day
- You'll be drafting, reviewing, and filing different types of patent applications—provisional, non‑provisional, and PCT filings—and making sure everything meets patent office requirements.
- You'll help manage the company's IP portfolio, tracking deadlines and keeping records up to date.
- You'll support patent prosecution by communicating with examiners and helping respond to office actions to secure strong patent rights.
- You'll conduct prior art searches, patentability reviews, freedom‑to‑operate analyses, and IP due‑diligence work.
- You'll collaborate closely with inventors to understand new technologies and provide guidance on IP strategy.
- You may also support trademark prosecution and enforcement.
- You'll ensure all IP work aligns with domestic and international regulations.
- You'll provide support on litigation matters, such as reviewing patents for potential infringement or validity issues.
- A bachelor's degree in a relevant technical field—such as electrical engineering, materials science, mechanical engineering, chemistry, or another battery‑related discipline.
- USPTO registration as a Patent Agent or Patent Attorney.
- Ideally 1‑3 years of experience in patent drafting, prosecution, and portfolio management. Experience in battery technology is a bonus.
- Someone who understands IP laws and procedures, can run IP searches, and can pick up new tools quickly.
- Strong communication skills—both written and verbal—since you'll be translating complex technical and legal concepts.
- High attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
- Someone adaptable, proactive, and curious—comfortable working independently and in a fast‑paced environment.
- Working with both domestic and international patent applications, including PCT.
- Familiarity with IP management software.
