Registered Nurse, Labor and Delivery
This position is for an RN specializing in Labor and Delivery within Client Child Health. The unit has 18 Labor and Delivery beds and 8 overflow postpartum beds. An average of 100 to 140 births occur each month. The unit adheres to AWHONN guidelines for staffing ratios, with 1:4 for postpartum. Common diagnoses include pre-eclampsia and gestational diabetes. The charge nurse typically does not take an assignment.
Surgical techs are available on the unit. An OB is present 24/7, with pediatric hospitalists and neonatologists available. Anesthesia support is also available 24/7. Respiratory therapy equipment is present, including vents, CPAP, and BiPAP. Telemetry strips are monitored by central telemetry techs; RNs are not required to read them. The electronic fetal monitoring system in use is Epic. Scheduling is assigned based on unit needs, with no self or block scheduling allowed.
Weekend and holiday coverage may be required as needed to support the unit. Floating to the postpartum unit is required in rotation. Hospital-provided scrubs are the dress code for this position.
