Job Description:

Healthcare Executive Placements, Inc. (HCEPInc) is seeking an Interim Nurse Supervisor, Med Surg/Tele for a W2 Contract position based in Freemont, California.

Assignment Duration:13 Weeks with high likelihood of extending

Location: Freemont, CA

Weekly compensation (based on completion of a 36-hour work week): Between $3,209 – $3,795 (all-in), with flexibility in how the package is structured based on candidate needs. Compensation may include a combination of taxable wages, per diems (if eligible), and reimbursements.

Summary:

The Interim Unit Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily clinical and operational activities of the Medical-Surgical/Telemetry unit, ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality, patient-centered care. This role provides frontline leadership to nursing staff, coordinates patient flow and staffing, promotes regulatory compliance, and collaborates with physicians and interdisciplinary teams to support operational excellence and positive patient outcomes. The Unit Supervisor serves as a clinical resource and leader while fostering a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Essential Functions:

Provide day-to-day leadership and supervision of nursing staff on the Med Surg/Telemetry unit.

Coordinate staffing assignments, patient flow, admissions, transfers, and discharges to ensure safe and efficient operations.

Monitor patient care delivery to ensure compliance with evidence-based practice, regulatory requirements, and organizational standards.

Serve as a clinical resource for staff, providing guidance with complex patient care situations and supporting clinical decision-making.

Promote a culture of patient safety, quality improvement, and service excellence.

Collaborate with physicians, case management, ancillary departments, and interdisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes across the continuum of care.

Support performance management by coaching, mentoring, and developing nursing staff while fostering employee engagement and professional growth.

Participate in quality improvement initiatives, regulatory readiness, risk management activities, and patient safety investigations.

Assist with managing unit operations, including staffing, scheduling, payroll review, supply utilization, and productivity.

Ensure appropriate delegation of patient care activities consistent with scope of practice and organizational policies.

Respond to patient, family, and staff concerns and facilitate timely issue resolution.

Maintain clinical competency and provide direct patient care as needed to support unit operations.

Qualifications:

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required. Experience in lieu of degree will be considered.

Three or more years of recent acute care nursing experience in Med Surg and/or Telemetry required.

Prior charge nurse, relief supervisor, assistant manager, or nurse leadership experience required.

Experience with staffing coordination, patient throughput, quality improvement, and regulatory compliance required.

BLS and ACLS certifications required.
