Northland Controls is seeking an experienced Lead Technician in Fremont, California to join our team supporting the installation and delivery of physical security systems in the Bay Area. This is a great opportunity for a skilled security technician who enjoys working hands‑on in the field while providing technical leadership and guidance to other technicians and installers.
In this role, you'll help lead field installation activities, coordinate crews, troubleshoot and test systems, and work closely with the Project Manager to keep projects on schedule and within estimated labor hours. You'll also mentor Technicians and Installers and help ensure work is completed safely and in accordance with Northland and client standards.

What You'll Do- Lead day-to-day field installation activities and provide technical direction and support to Technicians and Installers assigned to the project.
- Install, terminate, test, and troubleshoot security system devices and associated wiring to ensure systems perform as designed.
- Work closely with the Project Manager to coordinate installation activities, labor requirements, schedules, site conditions, and project priorities.
- Support the coordination of multiple crews, larger installation teams, or multiple project activities to help keep work on schedule and within estimated labor hours.
- Monitor field progress and communicate delays, changing site conditions, labor needs, schedule impacts, and other project issues to the Project Manager.
- Coordinate field activities with general contractors, electrical contractors, door hardware contractors, subcontractors, and other trades.
- Read and interpret project drawings, blueprints, specifications, manuals, and other technical documentation.
- Ensure installation work meets Northland standards, client requirements, and established quality expectations.
- Maintain accurate daily documentation of work performed, project activities, customer requests, job information, and assignments to Technicians and Installers.
- Ensure labor time, job information, field directives, service documentation, vehicle logs, and other required records are completed accurately and on time.
- Track project materials and maintain accurate inventory to support project controls and billing.
- Maintain accountability for assigned company equipment and ensure tools and equipment are kept in proper working condition.
- Train and mentor Technicians and Installers on security systems, installation techniques, company procedures, project requirements, and safe work practices.
- Reinforce Northland safety requirements and ensure work is performed with the safety of employees, clients, and other site personnel in mind.
- Work with the Project Manager to support project closeout, turnover, and transition to the client and service teams.
- Perform hands‑on installation work as needed while providing field leadership to the project team.
- 5+ years of related experience installing and supporting physical security systems.
- Experience with access control, video surveillance/CCTV, or related electronic security systems is preferred.
- Experience leading field installation activities or providing technical direction to other technicians and installers.
- Associate degree, vocational/technical school training, apprenticeship, or equivalent combination of education and relevant field experience.
- Strong understanding of security system installation, wiring, termination, testing, and troubleshooting.
