Software Engineer
What to Expect
Tesla is seeking a highly motivated Metrology Software Engineer to develop and implement cutting-edge inline metrology systems for our advanced battery cell manufacturing lines (powder, film, and electrode processing lines). This role will be instrumental in developing, optimizing, and scaling up metrology systems, working within a cross‑functional team to take new battery designs from concept to high‑volume production.
The battery cell is a critical component of Tesla vehicles and energy storage systems. This position offers the opportunity to make significant contributions to our products while working in a fast‑paced, innovative environment. The ideal candidate is driven, detail‑oriented, and ready to push their limits, as they join in a highly motivated and capable team to make unbelievable things into reality.
WhatYou'll Do
- Support the engineers in development and deployment of innovative and scalable inline/lineside metrology systems for manufacturing lines, transitioning from proof‑of‑concept (offline/lab equipment) to high‑volume production (inline) to enable improved battery processing, performance, quality, and cost.
- Support design and implementation of data pipelines for ingesting and processing data from metrology equipment. Help define a platform that is highly leveraged, multi‑tenant, and self‑serviced.
- Support development of prototypes and scalable solutions for large language models (LLM). Including selecting appropriate models, configuring hyperparameters, and optimizing models for specific tasks to support document processing and knowledge extraction.
- Work closely with engineers to understand the requirements, translating them to technical specifications and collaborating in developing solutions.
- Provide technical guidance to end‑users of the systems and solutions.
- Prepare clean, maintainable, and efficient code across multiple programming languages and platforms. Develop documentation to define and standardize the processes.
- Participate in code reviews, testing, and deployment processes.
- Conduct structured problem analysis and root cause investigations to improve system reliability and performance. Investigate and resolve problems arising during integration into production process to ensure seamless interaction.
- Build back‑end systems from scratch that are capable of handling 100s of trillions events per day.
- Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineer, Mechatronics Engineering, or equivalent experience.
- 1+ years of relevant system design and integration experience.
- Tech stack skills:
Python, GoLang, C/C++, TCP/IP, Databases such as SQL, mongo
DB, influx
DB, Grafana. - Experience in design/development of APIs to communicate with services with detailed API/product requirement documentations.
- Experience in design/implementation of high speed/high performance data pipeline and working with various types of data.
- Be knowledgeable on networking protocols and network architecture.
- Experiences with large language models (LLM/GenAI) and AI/ML frameworks and tools, fine‑turning large language models, retrieval augmented generation development, PyTorch, Langchain, building applications on top of LLM.
- Experienced in documentation development for software lifecycle, from gathering the requirements to design/implementation/testing/support.
- Expertise in metrology system development and fleet management would be a big plus (e.g., semiconductor industry) including image processing, big data, and ability to perform advanced data analytics to investigate data quality issues.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
