Molex is seeking a Firmware Development Engineer to join our growing Opto-Electronics team. Our business unit serves the telecom and datacom industry with global design and manufacturing teams including:
United States, Canada, Asia and Mexico. In this early career role, the Firmware Development Engineer will be part of a multidisciplinary engineering team responsible for developing embedded software for next-generation optical transceivers. This Firmware Engineer will have the opportunity to learn from others with significant industry experience and have the opportunity to contribute to the design, implementation, and testing of firmware that controls high-speed photonic devices.
Occasional travel may be required for collaboration with global teams or participation in customer or industry events (approximately 10–15%). This role will be based in our Fremont office 5 days a week. This role will be supported by experienced mentors and have opportunities to expand your technical expertise.
What You Will Do- Develop and maintain embedded firmware for optical transceiver modules (QSFP-DD, OSFP, etc.)
- Implement I2C/MDIO communication protocols and monitor/control interfaces
- Collaborate with hardware, signal integrity, and test teams to validate firmware functionality
- Assist in debugging and troubleshooting firmware issues using logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, and protocol analyzers
- Support firmware integration with host systems and participate in interoperability testing
- Document firmware architecture, APIs, and test procedures
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field preferred
- Previous internship experience with embedded C/C++ programming
- Familiarity with microcontrollers, RTOS concepts, and low-level hardware interfaces
- Exposure to I2C, SPI, UART, or other serial communication protocols
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills, curiosity, and a desire to grow professionally
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
- This role is not eligible for visa sponsorship
For this role, we anticipate paying $80,000 - $130,000 per year. This role is eligible for variable pay, issued as a monetary bonus or in another form
