Job DescriptionPosition: 1st Grade Teacher
Location: Howard Elementary
Qualifications: Nebraska Teaching Certificate with appropriate endorsement required.
Compensation and Benefits:
- Base Salary: per 2026-27 Salary Schedule plus an Annual Flat Salary Stipend. Total gross salary for BA, Step 1 is $52,896.00 ($43,896.00 + $9,000 stipend).

- Paid Leave: 4 Personal Days; 9 Sick Days; 5 Bereavement Days;
Civic Leave;
Professional Leave as determined by administrators. Certified staff administer a Sick Leave Bank; parents or guardians may use up to 4 sick days to attend FPS-sponsored activities. - Retirement: FPS is a member of the Nebraska Public Employee Retirement System.

Job RequirementsEducation Level: Bachelor's Degree
Certification/Licensure: Nebraska Teaching Certificate with appropriate endorsement and level for area and grade being taught.
Experience Desired: Experience working with students during college training or prior teaching.
Other Requirements:
- Good human relations skills.
- Ability to work with students, staff, administration, and parents.
- Knowledge of subject area to be taught.
- Ability to plan lessons, teach to an objective, and adjust lessons as necessary.
- Knowledge of child development.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Basic computer operation with an alphanumeric keyboard.
The teacher will:
- Plan and deliver lessons matching the intended curriculum and meeting individual student needs.
- Create objectives at the correct level of difficulty and assess understanding.
- Instruct assigned students at the location and times designated.
- Develop and maintain a conducive classroom environment.
- Monitor student progress and adjust teaching strategies.
- Model appropriate behavior for students.
- Evaluate student performance through written tests and performance‑based assessments.
- Collaborate with other teachers on instructional goals and methods.
- Assist with selecting instructional materials and equipment.
- Implement student conduct policies and maintain classroom order.
- Supervise fire drills and emergency preparedness programs.
- Follow board regulations and district policies.
- Maintain accurate attendance records.
- Attend staff meetings, parent/teacher conferences, and committee work.
- Participate in professional growth activities (workshops, seminars, conferences, in‑services).
- Complete special projects and other assigned duties.
Standing, walking, sitting, bending/stooping, reaching/pulling/pushing, climbing, driving, lifting up to 50 pounds, carrying 1‑150 ft. Manual dexterity tasks require operating computers, AV equipment, copy machines, telephone, and other equipment.
