Job Description
Position: Special Education Para educator (Preschool)
Location: Washington Elementary, Fremont Public Schools
Starting Date: Aug 10, 2026
Employment: 7 hours per day, work student days during school year
Reports To: Building Administrator, Teacher(s), Director of Support Services
Salary: $16.46 - $18.02 per hour, increasing to $18.02 - $19.90 for bilingual English/Spanish

Qualifications & Requirements- High school diploma or GED (post‑secondary training desired)
- Understanding of basic reading and math skills
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Experience working with children/students (desired)
- Drivers License (required);
First Aid/CPR certificate desired - Bilingual in English/Spanish beneficial but not required
- Assist teacher in providing instruction to students with disabilities.
- Assist with collection and preparation of instructional material and equipment.
- Assist with evaluation, monitoring, and supervision of students’ work.
- Assist students in performing activities initiated by the supervising teacher.
- Prepare instructional aids, games, and bulletin boards at teacher’s discretion.
- Implement behavior management and modification techniques as structured by the supervising teacher.
- Assist with classroom clerical and daily organizational duties.
- Attend professional development meetings and workshops for para educators.
- Respect confidentiality of student information and communicate only with authorization.
- Exhibit a positive working relationship with students and staff.
- Follow all school and district policies and regulations.
- Assist with physical and health needs of students, including feeding, toileting, transferring, positioning, and special care needs.
- Assist with provision of physical and occupational therapy exercises for students.
- Assist in loading and unloading students from vehicles and supervise them during district transport.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervising teacher or administrative staff.
- Stand, walk, and occasionally climb as needed.
- Drive district vehicles when assigned.
- Lift up to 60 pounds; carry objects up to 50 feet.
- Perform manual dexterity tasks (grasping, operating computer, keyboard, scissors, A/V equipment, copy machines, telephone).
Primary work environment is heated, non‑air‑conditioned classroom/building; may include off‑campus sites. Hazards include communicable diseases, furniture, frequent lifting, and traveling with students.
