Location: Washington Elementary
Schedule: 7.5 hours/day (Work student days)
Reports To: Building Administrator and/or Director of Special Education, Teacher(s), Building Administrator, and Director of Support Services
Responsibilities- Perform classroom support duties under the supervision and guidance of classroom teachers and therapists, including feeding, toileting, transferring, positioning, and other personal care needs.
- Assist with physical and occupational therapy for students under supervision of OT or PT.
- Assist the supervising teacher/therapist in collection and preparation of instructional material and equipment.
- Assist with the evaluation, monitoring, and supervision of students’ work.
- Assist students in performing activities initiated by the supervising teacher.
- Prepares instructional aids, games, and bulletin boards as directed.
- Implements behavior management and modification techniques as structured and monitored by the supervising teacher.
- Assist with various classroom clerical and daily organizational duties.
- Attends professional development meetings and workshops for para educators.
- Respects the confidentiality of student information and communicates progress or concerns with authorization.
- Exhibits a positive working relationship with students and staff.
- Follows all rules and regulations relating to school and district policies.
- Assists in the loading and unloading of students from vehicles and supervises students while being transported by district vehicles.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the supervising teacher, therapist, and/or administrative staff.
- High School Diploma or GED (Post-secondary training desired).
- Drivers License (First Aid/CPR certificate desired).
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Understanding of basic reading and math skills.
- Experience working with children/students.
- Ability to perform the identified tasks, including standing, walking, lifting up to 60 pounds, and manual dexterity tasks.
- Salary: $17.67 - $19.51 per hour, with $19.51 - $21.54 per hour if bilingual.
