Position Overview

The Aviation Maintenance Technology Instructor serves as a faculty member for the four‑semester FAA Aviation Maintenance Technology Certification program. The instructor reports to the Division Director for Math, IT, and Engineering. All courses are held at Ronald Reagan National Airport hangar, 2801 Thomas Ave, Hangar #2, Washington, DC 20001, but the instructor may be expected to teach at other locations. Classes are scheduled to meet students' needs and the instructor may teach up to 11 credit hours in the fall and spring semesters and up to 8 credit hours during the summer session, with instruction during day, evening, or weekend sessions.

Responsibilities
  • Must teach all assigned classes and hours as determined by the semester course schedule.
  • Plan for instructional activities to include, but not be limited to, lectures, class discussion, demonstration labs, and projects.
  • Hold office hours for student conferences at least one hour per week.
  • Submit in a timely manner and maintain, in an electronic format, accurate records of attendance and grades.
  • Provide a classroom environment conducive to learning, establishing and maintaining classroom control.
  • Attend all meetings, ceremonies, and official functions as specified by the Dean Community College Officer and/or Associate Deans; and
  • Adhere to the University policies and guidelines in all matters concerning academics, student and staff conduct.
Requirements
  • The individual must hold a current FAA Mechanic Certificate with both Airframe and Powerplant ratings for at least the three (3) year period immediately preceding appointment.
  • A bachelor’s degree in this or a related field is preferred but not required.
  • At least three or more years of experience teaching the subject matter is preferable.
  • Must demonstrate knowledge in maintenance fundamentals, aviation materials, electrical systems, engine theory and applications, aircraft metallic structures, systems and components, and other related topics.
  • Must also demonstrate familiarity with FAA regulations, particularly those associated with 14 CFR Part 147.
  • Certified to teach courses online, hybrid, or in a remote learning environment.
Employment Conditions

Location:

Ronald Reagan National Airport hangar, 2801 Thomas Ave, Hangar #2, Washington, DC 20001.

Position Status:
Part‑Time, Temporary. Closing Date:
Open until filled.

Pay Plan, Series & Grade: ES0000/0000/01. Salary Range:
Varies based on assignment (minimum $1200 per credit hour).

Benefits:
Due to the temporary nature of the appointment, this position is ineligible for benefits.

Union:
This position may be eligible for representation and may require payment of union fees through direct payroll deduction, dependent upon certain criteria.
