Compensation, Benefits & Employment Details

Qualifications: Nebraska Teaching Certificate with appropriate endorsement

Salary & Benefits: Base Salary per 2026-27 Salary Schedule plus an Annual Flat Salary Stipend. Total gross salary for BA, Step 1 is $52,896.00 (Salary is $43,896.00 + $9,000 annual flat salary stipend).

FPS values professional growth and supports a New Teacher Mentorship Program. New teachers are offered a one-time salary advance opportunity to increase their August paycheck.

Leave & Retirement: Paid Leave: 4 Personal Days; 9 Sick Days; 5 Bereavement Days;
Civic Leave; and Professional Leave as determined by administrators. Sick Leave Bank available to eligible certified staff. Parents/guardians of FPS students may use up to 4 additional sick days per year for FPS-sponsored activities. Retirement: FPS participates in the Nebraska Public Employee Retirement System with a defined plan. Long term disability, a $10,000 life insurance policy, and quarterly perfect attendance bonus opportunities are provided.

Responsibilities

Meets and instructs assigned students at the locations and times designated.

Develops and maintains a classroom environment conducive to effective learning within district resources.

Plans a program of study and assists in modifications to meet individual needs, interests, and abilities; utilizes diverse assessment techniques and curricular modifications as required for special needs students.

Assists in the diagnosis of disabilities and seeks district specialist input as needed.

Collaborates with teachers and staff to plan instructional goals and modify programs to ensure intended outcomes.

Assists in selecting instructional books, equipment, and assistive devices; suggests modifications as needed.

Plans and supervises assignments for teacher assistants.

Supports classroom management and implements policies regarding student conduct.

Supervises fire drills and emergency preparedness activities.

Follows district and board policies, regulations, and expectations.

Addresses students’ personal hygiene needs as required.

Assesses student progress using varied methods (authentic, performance-based, formative) and provides progress reports.

Maintains attendance, absences, tardies, and other required records.

Develops, writes, and implements behavior modification programs.

Prepares records for students served through the IEP process.

Communicates with students, parents, and professional staff regarding educational programs and IEP/MDT processes.

Attends staff meetings and serves on committees as required.

Participates in ongoing professional growth through reading, workshops, seminars, conferences, in services, and coursework.

Completes special projects and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Requirements

Education: Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree

Certification/Licensure: Nebraska Teaching Certificate with appropriate endorsement in Special Education

Experience Desired: Training and teaching in regular and special education with emphasis on Specific Learning Disabilities, Behavior Disorders, and At-Risk Students

Other Requirements: Knowledge of psycho-educational diagnosis, instructional techniques and materials, methods for individualizing instruction, developmentally appropriate curriculum; knowledge of behavior modification and management.

Additional: Physical ability to perform job duties; ability to operate computer and common classroom equipment.
