Mechanical Engineer

Job Description

The Mechanical Engineer designs structural, electrical, hydraulic, and plumbing systems while supporting production, customer service, and research and development initiatives. This role blends hands-on problem solving on the manufacturing floor with detailed design and analysis work in a collaborative office environment. The Mechanical Engineer also manages engineering and R&D projects, ensuring high-quality, reliable products and continuous improvement across the organization.

Responsibilities

+ Design structural, electrical, hydraulic, and plumbing systems that meet performance, reliability, and safety requirements.

+ Create and update detailed mechanical designs, models, and drawings using Solid Works and AutoCAD.

+ Develop and maintain engineering documentation, including bills of materials (BOMs), drawings, and specifications.

+ Apply DFMEA (Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) and FEA (Finite Element Analysis) to evaluate designs, mitigate risks, and improve product robustness.

+ Support new product development from concept through production, including prototyping, testing, and design refinement.

+ Collaborate closely with production teams to troubleshoot mechanical issues on the manufacturing floor and implement effective solutions.

+ Assist warranty and customer service teams with technical issues by analyzing problems, identifying root causes, and recommending corrective actions.

+ Work with sheet metal components and assemblies, ensuring manufacturability and adherence to quality standards.

+ Participate in drafting and documentation activities to ensure accurate, clear, and complete engineering outputs.

+ Manage engineering and research & development projects as needed, including planning, execution, and coordination with cross-functional teams.

+ Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives in design, processes, and products to enhance performance, cost-effectiveness, and customer satisfaction.

+ Communicate effectively with internal stakeholders, including production, customer service, and other engineering team members, to align on project goals and deliverables.

Essential Skills

+ Mechanical engineering degree.

+ Proficiency in mechanical design with strong understanding of structural, electrical, hydraulic, and plumbing systems integration.

+ Hands-on experience using Solid Works for 3D modeling and mechanical design.

+ Experience using AutoCAD for mechanical drawings and layouts.

+ Knowledge of DFMEA (Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) and ability to apply it to mechanical designs.

+

Experience with FEA (Finite Element Analysis) to evaluate and optimize designs.

+ Ability to develop and maintain detailed engineering drawings, drafting documentation, and bills of materials (BOMs).

+ Experience supporting new product development, including design, testing, and launch activities.

+ Familiarity with sheet metal design and fabrication considerations.

+ Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot issues on the manufacturing floor.

+ Effective communication skills to collaborate with production, customer service, and cross-functional teams.

+ Organizational and project coordination skills to manage multiple engineering and R&D tasks.

+ Experience in project management within an engineering or manufacturing environment.

+ Background in drafting standards and best practices for mechanical documentation.

+ Exposure to warranty or field support activities, including root cause analysis and corrective actions.

+ Experience working with hydraulic and plumbing systems in an industrial or manufacturing context.

+ Familiarity with continuous improvement methodologies in product design and manufacturing.

+ Interest in research and development projects and innovation in mechanical systems.

Work Environment

The role operates in a combination of office and manufacturing settings. The office features half-wall cubicles that create an open, collaborative atmosphere where engineers can easily communicate and share ideas. The manufacturing floor environment can be loud and dirty due to active sheet metal work and welding operations, requiring comfort working around industrial processes and equipment. The engineering team typically wears jeans and a polo or t-shirt along with steel-toe footwear to align with safety and practical needs on the shop floor.
