Registered Nurse - Emergency Evenings

Job Summary:

Location: Methodist Fremont Health, 450 E 23rd St., Fremont, NE.
Work Schedule: 3 twelve‑hour shifts 11:00 am–11:00 pm with every third weekend rotation.

• Demonstrates sensitivity and understanding of patient rights.
• Transcribes/countersigns physician orders, implements orders, and documents all patient‑related information with no misunderstanding.
• Ensures patients understand activities occurring during Methodist Fremont Health visits/hospitalization.
• Notifies physicians of pertinent observations and abnormal laboratory and x‑ray results.
• Creates accurate, complete care plans from admission to discharge and modifies them as needed.
• Maintains nursing care standards and implements hospital policies and procedures.
• Documents all assessments, reassessments, implementation, and evaluation of patient care accurately, legibly, and timely.
• Uses effective clinical delegation skills and evaluates delegated outcomes.
• Administers, observes, and reports drug effects, intravenous procedures, and other therapeutic measures safely and accurately.

• Accurately assesses patient needs including physical, psychosocial aspects.
• Utilizes history and assessment information to identify problems, set goals, and determine outcomes.
• Applies the nursing process to all individuals from infancy to advanced age.
• Executes planned care and evaluates outcomes, adjusting care plans as needed.
• Communicates pertinent information appropriately (shift reports, unit‑to‑unit transfers, etc.).
• Develops teaching plans for patients/families based on assessment data and discharge plans.
• Provides direct patient care using nursing skills and judgment based on orders.

• Performs technical aspects of patient care with clinical competency and proper techniques.
• Proficient with equipment such as Pyxis, One Touch, and IMED.
• Demonstrates safety consciousness and incorporates safe practice.
• Places, evaluates, and maintains IV lines skillfully.
• Operates various equipment and supplies as required.
• Performs airway management and precise emergency procedures.
• Ensures patient comfort through positioning, bathing, linen arrangement, and courtesy.

• A formal training program after high school is required.
• Graduation from an accredited Diploma School of Nursing or College of Nursing with an Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Bachelor of Science (BSN) is required.

• Current valid Registered Nurse (RN) license, compact multistate license, or a temporary permit while awaiting licensure.
• American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) – strongly preferred at hire, required within 3 months.
• American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – required within 6 months.
• American Heart Association Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) – required within 1 year.
• Trauma Nurse Core Curriculum (TNCC) – required within 2 years.
• Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course (ENPC) – required within 2 years.
• Certified Critical Care Nurse (CCRN) – preferred.
• Certified Emergency Nursing (CEN) – preferred.
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) – preferred.

• One to two years of nursing experience preferred.
• Emergency or Acute care nursing experience preferred.

• Medium work – exerting up to 50 pounds of force.

• Occasionally performed (1%–33%):
  Climbing, Crawling, Kneeling, Sitting.
• Frequently performed (34%–66%):
  Balancing, Carrying, Crouching, Distinguish colors, Keyboarding/Typing, Lifting, Pulling/Pushing, Repetitive motions, Stooping/bending, Twisting.
• Constantly performed (67%–100%):
  Grasping, Hearing, Reaching, Seeing/visual, Speaking/talking, Standing, Walking.

• Indoor area with mild physical discomfort from dust, fumes, temperature, and noise (typical patient care provider and laboratory technician exposure).

• Not Related: Electrical shock/static.
• Rare (1%–33%):
  • Radiation alpha, beta, gamma (X‑ray, CT, Gamma Knife).
  • Radiation non‑ionizing (UV, visible light, infrared, microwaves – NICU only).
• Occasionally (34%–66%):
  • Physical hazards (noise, temperature, lighting, wet floors, outdoors, sharps).
  • Equipment, machinery, tools.
  • Explosives (pressurized gas).
  • Hazardous drugs – personal protective equipment required.
• Frequent (67%–100%):
  • Chemical agents – toxic, corrosive, flammable, latex.
  • Biological agents – airborne and blood borne viruses, blood or body fluid (BBF) exposure.
  • Mechanical moving parts, vibrations.
