Job Summary
The practice of nursing by a registered nurse shall mean the assumption of responsibility and accountability for those nursing actions which include, but are not limited to: assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of a nursing diagnosis. Execution of the prescribed diagnostic and therapeutic treatment regimens, administering, delegating, and evaluating nursing activities.

Work Schedule:
casual/PRN position.
- Accurate patient/family assessment to identify responses to health conditions.
- Perform patient care assessments and reassessments based on patient condition and established policy/procedure.
- Utilize the nursing process when providing assessment for all individuals.
- Assess and reassess pain and pain management techniques utilized.
- Document all assessment and reassessments in an accurate, legible, and timely manner.
- Formulate a nursing diagnosis and plan of care.
- Utilize history and assessment information to identify patient problems and set goals.
- Formulate a teaching plan based upon identified learning needs.
- Revise a plan of care as indicated by patient response to treatment.
- Use assessment data to formulate a plan for discharge needs.
- Implement nursing treatment regimen.
- Perform patient care responsibilities considering needs specific to standards of care and the patient’s age.
- Provide direct patient care using professional nursing skills per physicians and other licensed practitioners’ orders.
- Teach health care practices and participate in patient and family education programs.
- Apply appropriate medication knowledge and correct administration based on age and condition.
- Ensure documentation of nursing care meets current standards and policies.
- Evaluate the plan of care and treatment.
- Evaluate overall plan daily for effectiveness and make adjustments as needed.
- Evaluate effectiveness of learning and discharge teaching needs.
- Coordinate and supervise patient care for a multidisciplinary approach.
- Communicate pertinent information regarding patient care clearly.
- Assist physicians with procedures and patient rounds.
- Utilize effective clinical delegation skills, demonstrating accountability for scope of practice.
- Consult with co-workers and other departments as appropriate for an interdisciplinary approach.
- Ensure safety initiative compliance.
- Perform duties consistent with organization and departmental safety policies and procedures.
- Complete departmental safety requirements such as blitz, in‑services, etc., annually.
- Graduate from an accredited Diploma School of Nursing/College of Nursing with an Associate of Science Degree in Nursing (ASN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
- Two to five years previous inpatient nursing experience preferred.
- Current valid Nebraska Registered Nurse (RN) License, valid compact multistate license to work in Nebraska, or a temporary permit while awaiting licensure.
- Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) strongly preferred at time of hire, required within 3 months of hire.
- Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP).
- Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
- Preferred:
Electronic Fetal Monitoring (C.EFM) Certificate of Added Qualification from NCC within 1 year of eligibility. - Current American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
- Knowledge of computer resources.
- Proficiency in nursing practice.
- Exceptional ability to be self‑directed.
- Outstanding ability to communicate with a wide variety of disciplines.
- Weight Demands – Medium Work:
Exerting up to 50 pounds of force. - Physical Activity:
Occasionally (1%-33%) – Climbing, Crawling, Kneeling, Sitting. Frequently (34%-66%) – Balancing, Carrying, Crouching, Distinguishing colors, Keyboarding/typing, Lifting, Pulling/Pushing, Repetitive Motions, Stooping/bending, Twisting. Constantly (67%-100%) – Fingering/Touching, Grasping, Hearing, Reaching, Seeing/visual, Speaking/talking, Standing, Walking.
