JET TRUCK TECHNICIAN

Wage Range: $24.80 - $34.91 per hour

NATURE OF WORK

This position requires semi-skilled work providing preventative cleaning, maintenance, and perform inspection duties on wastewater and stormwater sewers to provide reliable sewer service to commercial, domestic, and industrial customers.

Work involves responsibility for performing a variety of tasks in maintaining the wastewater collection system. An employee of this class uses tools and operates trucks and other equipment as an adjunct to the work. Work may involve working with the public. Supervision is received from an administrative superior through evaluation of work performed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

The following examples of work are illustrative only and are not intended to be all inclusive:

* Inspecting the sewer system and lift stations (including via a camera system).

* Operating a jet/vac truck and other equipment to clean and unplug the sewer system and lift stations.

* Collect GIS data.

* Utilize a schedule to maintain sewer system.

* Perform daily checks and preventative maintenance of the jet trucks.

* May assist with or complete other duties as assigned.

DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS

* Ability to operate all equipment required to complete responsibilities, including driving and operating a jet/vac truck or trailer.

* Knowledge of general maintenance and construction, labor tools, equipment, and practices.

* Knowledge of sewer installation and maintenance activities.

* Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions necessary to the proper execution of assignments.

* Ability to diagnose equipment malfunctions and maintenance requirements and to read, interpret, and work from blueprints, schematics, and maintenance manuals.

* Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

* Ability to communicate with the public and to communicate both orally and in writing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent including or supplemented by vocational courses in the mechanical trades; experience in sewer maintenance work or in work which provides a familiarity with the trades and equipment and machinery operation; or any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the knowledge, abilities, and skills.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

* Driver's License when operating a vehicle.

* When operating equipment that falls under the Nebraska Commercial Driver's License (CDL) status, the employee is required to possess and maintain the proper license and endorsements as a mandatory condition of employment (Class B w/Tanker).

* Employee must reside within 25 miles of the City limits of Fremont, Nebraska.
