Night Shift Maintenance Technician

The Hatchery Maintenance Technician maintains, repairs, constructs, and modifies industrial machinery and electrical components throughout a modern hatchery facility. This role monitors production equipment, responds to breakdowns, supports installation and modification of machinery, and assists in overseeing hatchery maintenance activities while consistently promoting a safe and efficient work environment.

• Monitor hatchery production areas to ensure proper functioning of assigned equipment and promptly intervene to perform repairs as necessary.
• Diagnose, adjust, maintain, and repair electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment using a wide range of hand and power tools.
• Review work orders for accuracy, complete assigned tasks, and maintain clear documentation of all work performed.
• Assist with the installation of new equipment and modification of existing equipment to meet operational needs.
• Provide training and guidance to peers as requested by the maintenance lead, supervisor, or training department.
• Suggest corrective measures when downtime occurs due to mechanical or technical defects to reduce recurrence and improve reliability.
• Attend maintenance meetings and training sessions as required to stay current with procedures, equipment, and safety standards.
• Identify opportunities for improvement and provide feedback to leadership on cost reduction, quality enhancement, and yield control.
• Remain on site to respond quickly to equipment issues and proactively keep busy with additional duties when maintenance needs are minimal.
• Perform cleaning and other non-maintenance tasks within the hatchery environment as needed to support overall operations.
• Operate forklifts, scissor lifts, and other powered equipment or machinery safely when required for maintenance tasks.
• Consistently follow all safety policies and procedures to maintain a safe working environment for yourself and others.
• Recognize potential safety risks, take appropriate action to mitigate them, and comply with all safety standards and PPE requirements.

• Minimum of 6 months industrial maintenance experience, with exposure to production or industrial environments.
• Proficient and comfortable using a wide variety of hand and power tools for maintenance and repair tasks.
• Ability to accurately use and read a tape measure and interpret industrial blueprints.
• Basic knowledge and safety understanding of electrical components and their operation.
• Solid understanding of basic math, including addition, subtraction, division, multiplication, and calculating percentages.
• Ability to use a personal computer and common software applications, including Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
• Capability to work in a refrigerated environment ranging from approximately 45–50 degrees Fahrenheit.
• Strong communication skills to interact in a courteous and professional manner with plant employees, vendors, and contractors.
• Ability to operate a forklift, scissor lift, and other powered equipment or machinery as needed.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a group of technicians or autonomously with limited supervision.
• Flexibility to work varying hours, including weekends and holidays, as required by production schedules.
• Ability to pass a required physical, including demonstrating the ability to lift the weight required for the position.
• Ability to stand and/or walk for an entire 8-hour shift.
• Commitment to wearing job-specific personal protective equipment (PPE) as designated by company policy.
• Ability to consistently practice and enforce safe working habits and comply with safety standards.

• At least 1 year of industrial maintenance experience is highly valued.
• Experience with HVAC systems and boiler operations is a plus.
• Associate's degree or higher in Mechatronics, Electrical, Welding, or a related technical field is preferred.
• Previous experience working with Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) or robotics is preferred.
• Welding experience and familiarity with water and boiler systems are preferred.
• Ability to read and work from industrial blueprints and schematics.
• Background in electrical, mechanical, or industrial maintenance within a production facility.
• Comfort working in a hatchery environment with baby chickens present and performing cleaning duties alongside maintenance tasks.
• Strong troubleshooting skills and a proactive approach to identifying and resolving equipment issues.
