About the RoleDedicated School Staffing is seeking reliable, flexible, and enthusiastic Substitute Special Education Teachers to support schools when full‑time teachers are absent. This role provides instructional support and classroom management in the absence of the regular special education teacher and ensures continuity of learning for students with diverse needs, including those with IEPs, 504 plans, and behavioral or developmental challenges. The substitute follows established lesson plans, adapts instruction as needed, and maintains a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment.
Key Responsibilities- Deliver instruction based on the teacher's lesson plans, IEP goals, and classroom routines
- Support students with a range of disabilities, including learning, emotional, behavioral, physical, and developmental needs
- Implement accommodations, modifications, and behavior support strategies as outlined in student plans
- Maintain a structured, positive, and respectful classroom environment
- Assist students with academic tasks, communication needs, mobility, or personal care (depending on the assignment)
- Collaborate with paraprofessionals, aides, and support staff to ensure consistent student support
- Monitor student progress and behavior, documenting relevant information for the returning teacher
- Use effective classroom management strategies to promote engagement and minimize disruptions
- Communicate professionally with staff and administrators regarding student needs or concerns
Uphold school policies, confidentiality requirements, and safety procedures
Required Qualifications- Must be 18 years of age or older
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid substitute teaching license or higher teaching license (as required by state regulations)
- Clean criminal background checks
- Ability to follow established lesson plans and adapt instruction when necessary
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Patience, flexibility, and the ability to remain calm under pressure
- Ability to collaborate effectively with support staff
Adherence to the Licensure Code of Professional Conduct for Ohio Educators
Preferred Qualifications- Experience working with students with disabilities
- Understanding of inclusive practices and special education principles
- Basic knowledge of behavior management strategies and de‑escalation techniques
CPI or other crisis intervention training
