Position Overview

Provide leadership and oversight for the Health and Nutrition components of the Early Childhood program. Ensure high-quality health and nutrition services are delivered in compliance with Head Start Performance Standards, licensing requirements, USDA Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) regulations, and agency policies while promoting positive outcomes for children and families.

Education

Required Bachelor degree in an area of study related to Nutrition /Dietetics, Home Economics, Health, Business, Education or related field;
Preferred Registered Dietitian.

Experience

Five years experience working in nutrition, food service, health, early childhood, or related experience and one to three years' experience with word processing, spreadsheet, internet, and database software.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide direction and supervision in the implementation and daily operation of the Health and Nutrition areas in compliance with Federal Head Start Performance Standards, Ohio Early Learning Standards, and Ohio DJFS Licensing Regulations.
  • Ensure regular review of written plans, policies, procedures and practices as required by local, state, and federal regulations; implement and communicate changes to staff.
  • Ensure delivery of quality services and safe and healthy environments for children and their families.
  • Monitor, evaluate and track implementation of program policies and procedures to ensure they are carried out effectively and consistently across the program.
  • Update, provide training, and review Nutrition Needs Assessment forms for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers ensuring referrals are made for children in a timely manner.
  • Provide nutrition information to parents regarding nutritional needs of children.
  • Complete the annual application renewal of participation in USDAs Child and Adult Care Food Program.
  • Maintain Microsoft Word, Excel Spreadsheets, and the Claims Reimbursement and Reporting System (CRRS) for USDA; submit USDA monthly reimbursement claims electronically through the CRRS.
  • Monitor and complete the monthly CACFP Reimbursement Claim and all required documentation including monthly food and non-food inventories for all Early Childhood centers, attendance, financial data, monthly meal counts, etc.
  • Monitor and evaluate progress on component goals and objectives and report progress on a monthly basis.
  • Participate in the strategic planning process, program self-assessment, community assessment, and other efforts to improve program services and identify and address family needs.
  • Generate and analyze reports to ensure data is accurate, reliable and aligns with agency, state and federal benchmarks.
  • Organize and/or attend staff, community and state meetings to build effective relationships, provide training, report updates and to stay informed on the latest research and best practices for serving young children and their families.
  • Ensure a team approach to service delivery; communicate, coordinate and collaborate with internal staff and external partners as appropriate.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as directed by supervisor.
