Position Description
Ryder is hiring a Diesel Technician Trainee in Fremont, Ohio. The position offers weekly pay, excellent benefits, and a technician career you can feel good about.
Hourly Pay: $18.25 per hour.
Schedule:
Monday–Friday. First Shift: 9:00 am – 5:30 pm.

- Zero to one year mechanical experience with diesel engines (preferred)
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Proficiency in English written and verbal communication
- Demonstrated customer service skills
- Strong technical aptitude and ability to learn equipment and machinery
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve problems (preferred)
- Work independently and as part of a team
- Professional representation of Ryder and competent engagement with employees and customers
- Time‑management and priority‑setting skills
- Track record of performance and good attendance
- Personal accountability and a proven track record of results
- Basic computer skills and experience in Microsoft Office
- Beginner knowledge of machines, tools, and shop management systems (preferred)
- Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class A (preferred)
- Regulated technical position
- Safety‑sensitive position; minimum age and work‑hour requirements determined by state law
- Obtain CDL within 6 months after hire
- Pass a Ryder drug test
- Pass a DOT physical
- Pass a Ryder road test
- Pass a Ryder background and motor‑vehicle check, including drug and alcohol verification from the last three years of employment
Some positions require additional screening that may include employment and education verification; motor‑vehicle records checks; a road test; and/or customer‑specific background requirements.
Responsibilities- Move heavy‑duty vehicles into or out of yard, wash bay, service shop, or rental shop; wash and detail vehicles manually or using automated equipment; fuel diesel, natural gas, and hybrid vehicles while adhering to shop safety policies; record fuel activity and maintain proper fuel and DEF inventories and reconciliation using hand‑held devices
- Perform multi‑point inspection on inbound units, checking tire pressure, tread, fluid levels, lights, washing windows, changing tires, and inspecting refrigeration units on trucks; report service or driver issues to the shop
- Maintain fuel island area to Six Sigma standards and perform minor facility maintenance tasks as assigned
- Attend and complete all Technician Training Development Program requirements and assessments. Training includes hands‑on and online training in:
Service Island Multi‑point Inspection;
Vehicle Fueling and Washing;
Environmental Safety & Spill Response;
Safe Driving;
Service Island Organization & Cleanliness (6S Standards);
Preventive Maintenance;
Tire and Wheel;
Service Bay Tool; HD Electrical;
Air and Hydraulic Brakes. - Perform other duties as assigned
