We are seeking a hands-on Controller to lead the accounting and finance function for a growing construction and demolition client. This role is responsible for the accuracy and integrity of the company's financial reporting while partnering closely with operations to support project profitability, cash flow, and business performance. The ideal candidate has experience in construction accounting, job costing, percentage-of-completion accounting, WIP reporting, and managing the month-end close in a fast-paced, project-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting in accordance with GAAP
- Prepare and review monthly financial statements, account reconciliations, and variance analyses for executive leadership
- Oversee all aspects of general accounting, including the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets, and cash management
- Partner with project managers and operations leadership to monitor project budgets, labor costs, equipment utilization, subcontractor expenses, and overall financial performance
- Develop and maintain rolling cash flow forecasts and assist leadership with liquidity planning and working capital management
- Prepare annual budgets, financial forecasts, and support long-range business planning
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax requirements, including sales and use tax, payroll tax, property tax, and contractor licensing requirements
- Coordinate annual financial statement audits, tax preparation, and work with external auditors, banks, insurance providers, and other third-party partners
- Establish and maintain strong internal controls and accounting policies to safeguard company assets
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required; CPA preferred
- 7+ years of progressive accounting experience
- Construction, demolition, heavy civil, environmental services, or specialty contracting industry experience preferred, not required
- Experience managing the month-end close and preparing financial statements
- Experience with budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial analysis
- Familiarity with construction accounting software
