The Department of Construction Management seeks graduate students as Teaching Associate applicants. Teaching Associates are responsible for providing classroom instruction. Eligibility is determined by successful TA eligibility, department eligibility, and adequate funding.
The department is seeking TA applicants for sections of CM/Arch 17, CM/Arch 18, CM/Arch 19L, Arch 31, Arch 32 (may or may not be limited to these courses).
The department reserves the right to select the most qualified candidates and assign TAs to courses appropriate for the program and curriculum each semester. Course offerings may vary due to staff and curriculum changes; no employment guarantee from semester to semester.
Anticipated Appointment Dates: This position is open until filled. If you have applied and no other positions are available, you will be notified.
Fall 2025:
August 18, 2025 – December 22, 2025;
Spring 2026:
January 15, 2026 – May 22, 2026
Hours/Units per week: Students can work up to 20 hours per week;
1-unit is equivalent to 2.66 hours per week (40 hrs x 1-unit/15-unit)
Lab hours typically range between 1.3-wtus - 5.2-wtus, depending on courses and sections;
Lecture hours typically range between 3-6 units, depending on courses and sections;
No more than 7.5 units total.
Job Duties may include, but are not limited to:
- Instructing and managing the classroom
- Creating or implementing course design and assignments
- Preparing course materials and activities
- Responding to and evaluating student writing
- Assessing student performance and assigning grades
- Assisting students outside of class during office hours and by appointment
- Attending TA orientation at semester start
- Participating in assessment procedures
- Teaching course as instructor of record
- Maintaining office hours
Qualifications: Candidates must:
- Be admitted to the Masters Program in the Department of Construction Management and in good academic standing
- Be enrolled in at least 6 units or two courses toward the degree each semester
- Demonstrate satisfactory progress toward the degree
- Have the ability to relate well with others and learn to instruct and evaluate students
- Show commitment to working effectively with diverse backgrounds
- Have knowledge and experience in the subject area
- Understand academic honor codes
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong communication skills
- Good time management skills
- Relevant professional experience
- Prior experience as a TA
