The Department of Physics seeks graduate students as Teaching Associate applicants. Teaching Associates typically are responsible for providing classroom instruction. Eligibility is determined by successful TA eligibility, department eligibility, and adequate funding.
The department is seeking TA applicants for lab sections of PHYS 2A, PHYS 2B, PHYS 4A, PHYS 4B, PHYS 10, PSCI 21, and NSCI 1A. TAs will teach sections of physics labs the following semester and could have opportunities to teach other beginning courses in the Physics Department.
The department reserves the right to choose the most qualified candidate for each position and to assign TAs to the courses that are appropriate for the department program and curriculum in any given semester. Due to staff and curriculum changes, courses offered may vary, and no guarantee of employment from semester to semester can be made.
Anticipated Appointment Dates: This position is open until filled. If you have applied and no other positions are available, you will be notified.
Fall 2025:
August 18, 2025 – December 22, 2025;
Spring 2026: January 15, 2026 – May 22, 2026
Hours/Units per week: Students can work up to 20-hours per week:
1-unit is equivalent to 2.66 hours per week (40hrs x 1-unit/15-unit). The typical range for labs is between 1.3-wtus - 5.2-wtus (dependent on courses and number of sections assigned). The typical range for lectures is between 3-6 units (dependent on courses and number of sections assigned). No more than 7.5-units.

Qualifications: A candidate for the position of teaching associate in the Department of Physics must meet the following minimum qualifications:
Preferred Qualifications:
Undergraduate degree in physics or related field.

Salary:
Each department has different salary scales. Please check with your department for your Base Salary. The monthly salary is calculated based on the Weighted Teaching Units assigned.
Teaching Associate is a student position for those actively enrolled in a graduate program at Fresno State. Students are limited to 20-hours of part-time work on campus.
