Instructional Student Assistant (ISA) for the Department of Psychology
College of Science and Mathematics
Position Overview:
The Department of Psychology is seeking Instructional Student Assistant (ISA) applicants.
Job duties may include the following, but will be dependent upon the specific course to which the Instructional Student Assist (ISA) will be assigned, as well as upon the specific needs of the faculty member in charge of the course. We have two different positions open this semester, the Psych 10 Readers who manage our writing requirement and experiment credits for our Psych 10 students and Teaching Interns who assist faculty with grading and class management.
The department reserves the right to choose the most qualified candidate for each position and to assign Instructional Student Assistant to the courses that are appropriate for the department program and curriculum in any given semester. Due to staff and curriculum changes, courses offered may vary, and no guarantee of employment from semester to semester can be made.
Anticipated Appointment Dates:
This position is opened until filled. If you have applied and no other positions are available, you will be notified.
Fall 2025:
August 18, 2025 - December 22, 2025
Spring 2026:
January 15, 2026 - May 22, 2026
Hours:
0-20 hours per week.
Job Duties may include the following, but will be dependent upon the specific course to which the instructional student assistant will be assigned, as well as upon the specific needs of the faculty member in charge of the course:
Psych 10 Reader - WRC
* Provide instructional support to the Psych 10 Coordinator, Dr. Kosloff.
* Evaluate student assignments and provide feedback on the Psych 10 writing prompts.
* Maintain/Submit students records/grades. You will be expected to grade papers using the approved rubric and reply to your students in a timely manner.
* Proficient in using Zoom and email to communicate with your students and be familiar with Canvas and Safeassign.
Teaching Intern
* Assignments will vary depending on the instructor students are assigned to. Typical tasks include grading tests, homework, quizzes for various upper division psychology courses. Must have completed the course you are expected to grade with an A or B or permission of the instructor in charge.
* Hours vary - typical assignment is between 20 to 40 hours for the semester.
Qualifications:
* Minimum GPA 3.0
* Demonstrated commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff and students from diverse ethnic, cultural and socioeconomic background, Classified graduate student in the Psychology Dept.
* Classified graduate student in the Psychology Dept.
* Bachelor's degree in Psychology or related field from an accredited university.
* Students applying for the Teaching Intern - ISA position may be undergraduates with junior or senior standing in the Psychology B.A. program with the permission of the faculty instructor.
* Mastery of the English Language. Communication skills appropriate for an instructional setting.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Mastery of APA Style
