Assistant Professor (Tenure‑Track) in Philosophy and Law – Fall 2026
OverviewThe Department of Philosophy at California State University, Fresno invites applications for a tenure‑track Assistant Professor position beginning Fall 2026. Candidates will teach undergraduate courses in the Pre‑Law curriculum, advise students for the Philosophy major and Pre‑Law program, supervise student research, conduct and publish scholarship, develop curriculum, and facilitate community outreach. The successful candidate will work cooperatively with faculty and staff in the Philosophy Department, the College of Arts & Humanities, and campus‑wide departments associated with the Pre‑Law program.
Responsibilities- Teach four course units (12 WTUs) per semester, with the possibility of course‑release time for scholarly activities during the first year.
- Develop and revise courses in philosophy of law, epistemology, critical thinking, and logic.
- Advise and mentor students in Philosophy, Pre‑Law, and Religious Studies, and support their preparation for law school.
- Supervise student research and contribute to the department’s scholarly agenda.
- Serve on departmental, college, and university committees.
- Engage in community service and participate actively in department activities and programming.
- Earned doctorate (Ph.D.) in Philosophy or a closely related discipline from an accredited institution.
- ABD candidates may be considered provided the doctorate is completed by August 1, 2026.
- Commitment to and preparedness for teaching in philosophy of law, critical thinking, logic, and epistemology.
- Commitment to and preparedness for advising and mentoring pre‑law students.
- A record of distinguished scholarship in philosophy and law commensurate with years of experience.
- Excellence in teaching philosophy, broadly construed.
- Excellence in teaching students with diverse learning needs.
- Excellence in service, particularly advising.
- Potential for excellence in scholarship, especially in philosophy and law, with a rich research agenda.
- Interest in developing special curricular programs for advanced pre‑law students (e.g., Philosophy, Politics, and Economics).

Salary and BenefitsThe anticipated salary for this assistant professor position is $6,250–$6,500 per month, with a competitive benefits package available through the CSU system.
