The successful candidate will join a department dedicated to the use of a curriculum responsive to the students it serves.
Providing instruction in Heating, Ventilating, Air Conditioning Refrigeration (HVAC/R) and Environmental Controls on the Fresno City College campus and/or at off‑site community campus locations, the instructor will be responsible for:
Responsibilities- Teach a full schedule of developmental and transfer level HVAC courses as assigned; see sub‑topics:
- Safety, hand tools and use of instruments;
- Basics of mechanical refrigeration, medium and low temp refrigeration, refrigerants, evacuation, charging, recovery;
- Basic and advanced electricity, single and 3 phase power, motors, controls, control strategies;
- Airflow measurement;
- Use of psychometrics as a diagnostic tool;
- Gas fired (natural and LP) heating systems;
- Flame control technologies;
- Heat pumps;
- Resistance heat;
- Uniform Mechanical/Plumbing Code and National Electrical Code as related to Air Conditioning, Refrigeration and Environmental Controls;
- Basic sheet metal fabrication;
- Residential duct system layout and design;
- Air conditioning and refrigeration system installation;
- Technician preparation for HVAC/R certification exams.
- Assist in the operation of the air conditioning program budget, facilities, and program;
- Attend departmental, division, and faculty meetings including workshops;
- Assist in recruiting and advising students;
- Work with local air conditioning companies in the development and placement of on‑the‑job student internships;
- Participate in departmental co‑curricular activities such as clubs and related events;
- Organize and maintain an active advisory committee;
- Develop reports and work with FCC Institutional Research to maintain data on enrollments, course completion, and outcome achievements;
- Perform duties related to grant and dual enrollment objectives;
- Attend regional and state level professional conferences and meetings regarding dual enrollment;
- Serve on and attend department, college, and district committees as needed;
- Participate in program review, student learning outcome development, and assessment to improve student learning;
