Henry S. Khanzadian Kazan Visiting Professor – Lecturer in Armenian Studies Program

Department Overview:

The Armenian Studies Program offers courses on Armenian history, language and literature, art and architecture, film, William Saroyan, the Genocide, and contemporary issues. Courses in Armenian history are also offered under the Department of History.

The Program supports the Armenian Students Organization, the program newspaper Hye Sharzhoom, and the Armenian Studies Program Lecture Series.

Position Summary

The successful candidate will teach a course in Armenian Studies in the modern period (19th century or later) with an emphasis on the Armenian Genocide. Applicants should indicate the specific content they would propose to cover in the course by including a brief outline in their application. The visiting faculty member may teach more than one course.

In addition, the Kazan Visiting Professor will give three public lectures on a single topic that will be published thereafter as a monograph. Candidates should indicate their choice of three‑lecture topic by title in their letter of application.

Teaching may be conducted in a distance‑learning mode. All faculty are expected to work cooperatively with faculty and staff within the department and college.

Instructor Responsibility

Temporary faculty members must adhere to and implement university and system‑wide policies as directed. Responsibilities include preparation, delivery, conducting, proctoring, and grading lectures, office hours, homework assignments, quizzes, class projects, and midterm and final exams.

Conditional Appointment

Appointment is contingent upon budget and enrollment considerations and is subject to the order‑of‑assignment provisions in the CSU–CFA collective bargaining agreement. These provisions prioritize tenure‑line faculty before new lecturer appointees.

Salary Range

Salary is commensurate with experience within the established range for Academic Year Lecturers (Class Code 2358). For temporary faculty with a terminal degree the monthly salary ranges from $6,221.00 to $13,224.00 when teaching full time (15 WTUs). Actual salary will adjust based on the number of WTUs assigned per academic term.

Anticipated Semesters

The temporary faculty pool is continuously open and positions are filled as needed based on enrollment and funding. Appointments may be one or more semesters. The pool will remain in place for two academic terms; re‑application is required for continued service beyond that period.

  • Multiple one‑semester appointments are being filled. Applicants should indicate preferred semesters in order of preference. Fall semesters run mid‑August through late‑December;
