ResponsibilitiesTemporary faculty members are responsible for adherence to and implementation of university and system-wide policies per Academic Policy Manual 306, paragraph
2. Responsibilities include preparing, delivering, conducting, proctoring, and grading lectures, office hours, homework assignments, quizzes, class projects, and midterm and final exams. All classes must be offered and meet in the scheduled mode (asynchronous, synchronous, in‑person, or hybrid) throughout the semester.
- Taught courses may include Machine Design, Thermal/Fluids, Materials/Product Development, Dynamics, or other courses identified to fulfill educational goals.
Appointments are contingent upon budget and enrollment considerations. The “Order of Work” applies: tenure‑line faculty are assigned first, followed by new lecturer appointees. Appointees must demonstrate eligibility to work in the United States; the university does not sponsor work visas.
CompensationPayment is commensurate with qualifications and experience within the CSU Salary Schedule (Class Code 2358 for Academic Year Lecturers). For a lecturer with a Master's degree, the salary range is $5,507–$6,677 per month for full‑time teaching (15 WTUs). Starting salaries generally begin near the minimum of the range and are adjusted based on WTUs assigned.
Required Qualifications- Education:
Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution (or foreign equivalent). - Experience:
Demonstrated commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse backgrounds.
- Commitment to undergraduate teaching excellence, evidenced by prior experience and evaluations.
- Successful undergraduate teaching experience.
- Experience in research and/or industry.
