The Department of Child and Family Science serves over 450 majors and 100 minors, most of whom are female, members of under‑represented ethnic minority groups, and first‑generation college students. Students choose an option in either Child Development or Family Science. The department has 7 full‑time faculty and about 10 part‑time faculty.
Position SummaryWe often need faculty to teach Child Development, Family Science, and related courses. Course availability varies each semester. Instruction is primarily face‑to‑face during daytime hours.

Temporary faculty must adhere to university policy and are responsible for preparing, delivering, proctoring, and grading lectures and assignments. All classes must be offered and meet as scheduled across the semester in the designated mode (asynchronous, synchronous, in‑person, or hybrid).
Conditional AppointmentAppointment is contingent upon budget, enrollment, and the collective bargaining agreement. The “Order of Work” determines course assignment, prioritizing tenure‑line faculty over new lecturers.
CompensationSalary is commensurate with qualifications and is set by the CSU Salary Schedule (Class Code 2358). For a full‑time workload (15 WTUs) with a Master’s degree, the monthly range is $5,507–$6,677. Salaries are adjusted based on the number of WTUs assigned per term.
Anticipated SemesterThe temporary faculty pool is continuously open and positions are filled as needed. Appointments may begin on short notice and will be re‑evaluated for continuation beyond two academic terms.

Master’s degree in Child and Family Science or a closely related field (e.g., Early Childhood Education, Marriage and Family Therapy, Developmental Psychology, Family Sociology, Women’s Studies) with evidence of specialization relevant to CFS coursework.
Experience- Demonstrated commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Commitment to undergraduate teaching excellence, evidenced by prior teaching experience and evaluations.
- Successful teaching experience at the undergraduate level.
