Position Summary

The Department of Animal Sciences and Agricultural Education invites applicants to join the Temporary Faculty Pool - Agricultural Education. The purpose is to create a pool of qualified candidates for temporary instructional appointments. Eligible candidates may teach undergraduate courses such as:

  • AGED 50 (Ag Ed Orientation)
  • AGED 66 (Intro to Ag Communication)
  • AGED 135 (Intro Ag Education)
  • AGED 150 (Ag Resources & Computers)
  • AGED 166 (Ag Publications)
  • AGED 187 (Organization, Administration, and Supervision of Ag Ed)
  • AGED 189 (Education Ag Mech)
  • EHD 155A (Initial Student Teaching Supervision)
  • EHD 155B (Final Student Teaching Supervision)
  • AGRI 281 (Problems in Ag Ed)
  • CI 161 (Methods & Materials in Ag)
  • AGRI 10 (The Scientific Method)
  • AGRI 15 (Evidence Based Decision Making)
  • AGRI 110 (Intro to Ag Leadership)
  • AGRI 120 (Leadership in Groups/Teams)
  • AGRI 130 (Professional Development)
  • AGRI 140 (Leadership & Change)

  • or other classes that may be identified as needed to fulfill educational goals of current students
Instructor Responsibilities

Temporary faculty members are responsible for adherence to and implementation of university and system-wide policies as directed per Academic Policy Manual 306, paragraph
2. Instructors are responsible for preparation, delivery, conducting, proctoring, and grading (as appropriate) lectures, office hours, homework assignments, quizzes, class projects, and midterm and final exams. Classes must be offered and meet as scheduled throughout the entire semester, in the mode assigned (asynchronous, synchronous, in‑person, or hybrid).

Conditional Appointment

Appointments are contingent upon budget and enrollment considerations and subject to order of assignment provisions in the collective bargaining agreement between California State University and California Faculty Association. The "Order of Work" determines the sequence for assigning available courses, starting with tenure‑line faculty and ending with new lecturer appointees.

Compensation

Compensation is commensurate with qualifications and experience within the salary range placement established by the CSU Salary Schedule (Class Code = 2358 for Academic Year Lecturers). For a Master's degree, salary ranges from $5,507 to $6,677 per month when teaching full time (15 WTUs). Actual salary will be adjusted based on WTUs assigned per term.

Anticipated Semester

The temporary faculty pool is continuously open and positions are filled as needed. The pool will remain in place for two academic terms; applicants wanting to remain beyond that must reapply. Current anticipated semesters:

  • Fall 2026:
    August 19, 2026 – December 22, 2026
  • Spring 2027:
    January 15, 2027 – May 26, 2027
Required Qualifications
  • Education:

    A Master's degree in agricultural education, agricultural communications, agriculture leadership, or a closely related field (from an accredited institution or foreign equivalent).
  • Experience:

    Demonstrated commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Experience:

    Background in agriculture, agricultural education, communications, leadership, or closely related fields.
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Commitment to teaching excellence at the undergraduate level, evidenced through prior teaching experiences and evaluations or other evidence.
  • Successful undergraduate teaching experience.
  • Ability to engage with students beyond the classroom.
  • Additional credentials such as an MS/MA in a related field, professional certification, or industry experience.
