Instructor/Coordinator, Child Development Center (Full-Time, Tenure-Track) Fresno City College
This is a full-time, tenure‑track position. The District may fill more than one position from this pool.
Responsibilities- Administer the daily requirements of the Child Development Center
- Assist in the planning, coordinating, directing and supervising the activities and staff of the Child Development Center
- Administer the requirements and maintain all state, local, and federal categorical grant programs, prepare applications for child care funding, and manage early child care and education programs
- Supervise/co‑coordinate the laboratory experience of child development students in a developmentally appropriate demonstration site environment for preschool and toddler‑age children
- Develop program goals for children, parents, and students
- Enroll children, maintain appropriate records on children, staff, and students in compliance with District requirements, licensing regulations, and other legal and regulatory provisions
- Communicate with parents, staff and administrators related to Center operations and student progress
- Discuss issues or concerns with parents
- Train, supervise, evaluate and direct the work of the Center staff; coordinate and support relationships for inclusion with collaborating “on‑site” agencies
- Coordinate and conduct staff meetings and in‑service training
- Ensure availability of appropriate materials and equipment for staff and children’s use
- Assure maintenance of a physical environment that conforms to the State Department of Social Services licensing standards of health and safety
- Conduct Center inspections to assure compliance
- Supervise the Child and Adult Care Food Program
- Participate in institutional activities including staff development
- Meet regularly with discipline/division peers
- Serve on and attend department, college, and district committees as needed; participate in program review, student learning outcome development and assessment to improve student learning
- Participate on community advisory committees related to early care and education initiatives
- Prepare grant proposals for external funding to support center operations
- Teach developmental and transfer level Child Development courses as assigned
- Teach assignments in a variety of instructional settings and times, including evening and/or weekends, online or off‑campus and large group instruction classes as needed
- Learn and apply emerging technologies and advances (e.g., computer software applications) as necessary to perform duties in an efficient, organized and timely manner
- Otherwise fulfill all of the duties and responsibilities of instructors as required by Administrative Regulation 7122
- Other duties as assigned
- Master’s in child development, early childhood education, human development, home economics/family and consumer studies with a specialization in child development/early childhood education or educational psychology with a specialization in child development/early childhood education; or
- Bachelor’s in any of the above and master’s in social work, educational supervision, elementary education, special education, psychology, bilingual/bicultural education, life management/home economics, family life studies or family and consumer studies; or
- A valid California Community College Credential; or
- The equivalent education and/or experience (requires an equivalency)
- Experience and skill incorporating elements of diversity, equity, and inclusion into all areas of responsibility
- Recent experience working with African American, Asian/Pacific Islander, Latinx, Native American, and other racially minoritized students in the classroom and an understanding of how historical patterns of exclusion of these groups in higher education shape patterns of participation and outcomes
- Willingness to examine and remediate one’s instructional, relational, and classroom practices to more effectively engage and support racially minoritized students
- Related work and professional experience
- Experience working with students of various cultural, gender, age, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds, including disabled students
