The Department of Curriculum & Instruction provides undergraduate, credential, and graduate courses for Pre‑K – 12 teacher preparation and two master’s programs. This temporary faculty pool is intended to supply part‑time lecturers for the department’s courses as needed.
Instructor Responsibilities- Adhere to university and system‑wide policies as required by Academic Policy Manual 306, paragraph 2.
- Prepare, deliver, conduct, proctor, and grade lectures, office hours, homework, quizzes, class projects, and examinations.
- Ensure all courses meet as scheduled throughout the semester in the mode assigned (asynchronous, synchronous, in‑person, or hybrid).
Appointments are contingent upon budget and enrollment considerations and are subject to the order-of‑assignment provisions in the CSU‑CFA agreement. Eligibility to work in the United States must be demonstrated. The appointment may be withdrawn if the candidate fails to meet the required standards.
CompensationSalary is commensurate with qualifications and falls within the CSU Salary Schedule. For a Master’s degree holder, the range is $5,507 – $6,677 per month for full‑time (15 WTUs). Compensation for part‑time appointments is adjusted based on the number of WTUs assigned.
Anticipated Semester and Pool StatusThe temporary faculty pool is open continuously, with appointments made as enrollment and funding allow. Pool positions vary each semester; appointments are typically made shortly before the term starts. The pool remains available for two academic terms; candidates wishing to stay beyond that period must reapply.
Required Qualifications- Master’s degree in Education with an emphasis in Curriculum & Instruction or a closely related field.
- Demonstrated commitment to working with faculty, staff, and students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
- For 100‑level CI or ERE courses a master’s degree is required; 200‑level courses require a doctorate.
- Credential courses require a valid teaching credential and relevant K‑12 classroom experience.
- Online courses require online certification and/or completion of QLT training.
- Evidence of teaching excellence in higher education, such as evaluations or other documentation.
- Successful teaching experience in a higher‑education setting.
- Recent experience teaching at the Pre‑K‑12 level.
- Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. The deadline for the Fall 2026 hiring cycle is July 1, 2026; for the Spring 2027 cycle, October 31, 2026; the overall closing date for the 2026‑2027 academic year is March 1, 2027.
- Applicants must submit a cover letter, a list of courses they are interested in teaching, references (at least three professional references; letters are not submitted at this stage), and unofficial transcripts.
