Temporary Faculty Pool – Lecturer in Film and Media Arts

Department of Media, Communications and Journalism

The Department offers courses in advertising, broadcast and digital journalism, film, photography, public relations, and video production.

Position Summary

Kindly serve as a temporary faculty member teaching undergraduate courses such as:

  • MCJ 4:
    Writing for Visual Media
  • MCJ 15:
    Filmmaking
  • MCJ 17:
    Photojournalism
  • MCJ 114W:
    Screenwriting
  • Other courses as needed to meet educational goals.
Instructor Responsibility

Temporary faculty must adhere to university policy and responsible for preparing, delivering, conducting, proctoring, and grading all instructional components (lectures, office hours, assignments, quizzes, projects, midterm and final exams). All scheduled classes must be offered throughout the semester in the assigned mode (asynchronous, synchronous, in‑person, or hybrid).

Conditional Appointment

Appointment is contingent upon budget and enrollment considerations and is subject to the Order of Work defined in the collective bargaining agreement between CSU and the Faculty Association.

Compensation

Salary ranges are based on the CSU Salary Schedule (Class Code 2358). Temporary faculty with a Master’s degree earn $5,507–$6,677 per month when teaching full‑time (15 WTUs). Salaries adjust with the number of WTUs assigned per term.

Anticipated Semester
  • Fall 2026:
    August 19, 2026 – December 22, 2026
  • Spring 2027:
    January 15, 2027 – May 26, 2027
Required Qualifications
  • PhD or MFA in media, communication, journalism, or a similar field with an emphasis in film/media arts.
  • Evidence of commitment to working effectively with diverse faculty, staff, and students.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Commitment to undergraduate teaching excellence demonstrated through prior teaching experience and evaluations.
  • Successful under‑graduate teaching experience.
Application Procedures

Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. Key dates include:

• July 1, 2026: deadline for Fall 2026 hiring.

• October 31, 2026: deadline for Spring 2027 hiring.

• March 1, 2027: projected closing date for the 2026‑2027 Academic Year.
