Lecturer in Earth and Environmental Sciences – Temporary Faculty Pool

The department seeks qualified candidates to teach undergraduate courses such as:

  • EES 5. Climate Change
  • EES 6. California Wildfires, Forest Ecology and Land Use
  • EES 9. Introduction to Earth Science
  • EES 102S Sedimentology
  • EES 106 Structural Geology
  • EES 106F Structural Geology Field Methods
  • EES 108 Soil and Water Sciences
  • EES 112. Planet Earth through Time
  • EES 117 Hydrogeology
  • EES 167. Oceans and Atmosphere and Climate
  • EES 168. California's Earth System
  • NSCI 115. Environmental Earth and Life Science
  • or other classes as identified for current student needs
Instructor Responsibilities

Temporary faculty members are responsible for adherence to university and system-wide policies as directed per Academic Policy Manual. Instructors prepare, deliver, conduct, proctor, and grade lectures, office hours, homework assignments, quizzes, class projects, and midterm and final exams. All classes must be offered and meet as scheduled throughout the semester in the assigned mode (asynchronous, synchronous, in‑person, or hybrid).

Compensation

The salary range for Temporary Faculty with a Master’s degree is $5,507 – $6,677 per month for full-time (15 WTUs). Starting salaries are usually near the minimum of the range and will be adjusted based on assigned WTUs.

  • Fall 2026:
    August 19, 2026 – December 22, 2026
  • Spring 2027:
    January 15, 2027 – May 26, 2027
Required Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Geology, Environmental Science, or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
Experience
  • Demonstrated commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Evidence of successful teaching experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • A commitment to teaching excellence at the undergraduate level, evidenced by prior teaching experiences and evaluations.
  • Successful teaching experience at the undergraduate level.
  • Ph.D. in Geology, Environmental Science, or a closely related field.
