Temporary Faculty Pool - Lecturer in Literacy, Early, Bilingual, and Special Education
Department OverviewThe Literacy, Early, Bilingual, and Special Education Department (LEBSE) offers graduate programs in Literacy, Early Education, Multilingual/Multicultural, and Special Education, and one advanced credential in Reading Literacy and Leadership Specialist. It provides courses and supervision to several California teaching credential programs and the Bilingual Authorization Program.

- Adhere to and implement university and system-wide policies as directed by Academic Policy Manual 306, paragraph 2.
- Prepare, deliver, conduct, proctor, and grade lectures, office hours, homework assignments, quizzes, class projects, and midterm and final exams.
- Offer all classes as scheduled throughout the entire semester in the mode assigned (asynchronous, synchronous, in-person, or hybrid).
Appointment is contingent upon budget and enrollment considerations and subject to order of assignment provisions in the collective bargaining agreement. The "Order of Work" specifies that tenure-line faculty receive courses first, followed by new lecturer appointees. Applicants must demonstrate eligibility to work in the United States.
CompensationSalary is commensurate with qualifications and experience within the CSU Salary Schedule (Class Code = 2358 for Academic Year Lecturers). For temporary faculty with a master’s degree the range is $5,507–$6,677 per month when teaching full-time (15 WTUs). Actual monthly salary is adjusted based on the number of WTUs assigned per term.
Anticipated SemesterThe pool is continuously open and positions are filled as needed. The pool will remain in place for two academic terms; those who wish to remain must reapply.

January 15, 2027 – May 26, 2027
- For LEE and SPED courses: 100-level courses require a master’s degree; 200-level courses require a doctorate and 2–3 years of successful PreK‑12 teaching experience.
- Instructors of online courses must be online certified and/or complete QLT training before serving as an online instructor.
- A Master’s degree in Literacy, Early Education, Bilingual Education, Special Education, or Multilingual-Multicultural Education.
- A clear teaching credential (Multiple, Single Subject, PK‑3, or Education Specialist) or equivalent administrative credential.
- Demonstrated commitment to working effectively with diverse faculty, staff, and students.
- 2–3 years teaching experience in grades PreK‑12.
- For the PK‑3 credential program: credentialed or holding a Master Teacher or higher-level Child Development Permit with recent professional experience in early childhood settings aligned with California’s Preschool Learning Foundations and Curriculum Frameworks.
- Commitment to teaching excellence at the undergraduate level, evidenced by prior teaching experience and evaluations.
- Successful teaching experience at the undergraduate level.
- Active record of professional development for PreK‑12 teachers.
- Experience teaching in a virtual environment.
