Overview

The Department of Kinesiology is seeking to fill multiple areas within the program of Exercise Science. The Assistant Professor will primarily teach undergraduate and graduate classes in the Department of Kinesiology to a diverse group of students who could potentially be Exercise Science, Physical Education, Sport Administration, and Sport and Performance Psychology majors. The faculty member will also engage in scholarly activity at the R2 level, seek external funding, serve on committees at all levels of faculty governance, provide academic advising to students, chair and serve on thesis committees, and maintain collaborative relationships within and outside the Department, including community outreach.

Primary teaching responsibilities and specific assignments will depend upon Department needs and priorities.

Responsibilities
  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the Department of Kinesiology, primarily in Clinical Exercise Physiology, Cardiovascular Physiology, and Functional Anatomy.
  • Engage in scholarly activity at the R2 level, including seeking external funding.
  • Serve on committees, provide academic advising, chair thesis committees, and maintain collaborative relationships within and outside the department, including community outreach.
Qualifications Required Education
  • Terminal doctoral degree in Kinesiology or a closely related field from an accredited institution is required.
  • Applicants nearing completion of the doctorate (ABD) may be considered, but the doctoral degree must be completed by Aug 1, 2027.
Required Experience
  • College-level teaching in academic areas directly related to Kinesiology, preferably with an emphasis in clinical exercise physiology and/or cardiovascular physiology and/or functional anatomy.
  • Experience in scholarly activities.
Required Teaching Qualification
  • Clinical exercise physiology and/or cardiovascular physiology
  • Functional anatomy
  • General exercise science/exercise physiology courses
  • Specific instructional assignments will depend upon Department needs and priorities.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Two or more years of full‑time teaching at the college or university level in an area directly related to Kinesiology or sports medicine, and the job description.
  • Teaching experience at the graduate level.
  • Ability to advise students towards clinical careers such as clinical exercise physiology, physical therapy, athletic training, or other clinical health professions.
  • PhD with clinical experience and/or research experience in one of the following areas:
    • Clinical exercise physiology with a focus on EKG interpretation.
    • Cardiovascular physiology
    • Functional anatomy
    • Sports Medicine
  • Appropriate professional certifications and/or licenses. Examples include:
    • Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation, and/or other appropriate certification or license in the area of clinical exercise physiology.
    • National Athletic Trainers’ Association Board of Certification, Inc.
    • American Physical Therapy Association
  • Experience performing research at the R2 level and scholarly activities.
  • Evidence of seeking and/or acquiring external funding.
  • Clinical experience, such as physical therapy, athletic training, clinical exercise physiology, or research in cardiovascular physiology.
  • Post‑doctoral work with the ability to obtain external funding.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a teaching load consisting of 12 units per semester and maintain a research agenda and service requirements.
