Position Summary
The University Coach (Supervisor) is a faculty member of the LEBSE Department who supervises Teacher Credential Candidates for the PK-3 ECE Specialist Instruction Credential Programs. They serve as a liaison between the University and cooperating schools, providing information to schools and Mentor Teachers and communicating suggestions and needs back to the University to improve the PK-3 program.
Coach Responsibilities- Meet with Mentor Teachers early in the semester for orientation and discuss expectations and co‑teaching arrangements (including triad meetings with the Teacher Candidate, Mentor Teacher, and Coach).
- Make regular site visits to meet with Teacher Candidates, Mentor Teachers, and administrators, including small group, individual, or virtual discussions.
- Complete a minimum of six formal lesson observations in TK20 using scripted field notes or an observation rubric based on the California Teacher Performance Expectations (TPEs), at least four in‑person.
- Hold debriefing meetings after each observation to guide self‑reflection and provide feedback.
- Maintain ongoing communication with the Teacher Candidate and Mentor Teacher throughout the semester to monitor progress and provide guidance.
- Review lesson plans and reflections, providing continuous feedback.
- Assist the Teacher Candidate in applying current teaching methods, materials, and resources.
- Use coaching strategies to develop continuous self‑assessment, self‑reflection, and goal setting.
- Document areas for improvement at first sign of need; monitor progress and consult the Education Specialist Program Coordinator if needed.
- Support candidates in basic needs and mental‑health concerns and notify the Program Coordinator as appropriate.
- Evaluate the Teacher Candidate’s Site Visitation Project and/or Teaching Sample Project and debrief results.
- Formally evaluate the Teacher Candidate at mid‑semester and final‑semester in a triad meeting.
- Assist the Teacher Candidate with meeting the TPEs and assign a CR/NC grade through People Soft/My Fresno State .
- Attend all mandatory program events, meetings, and professional development sessions; achieve reliability as a rater and participate in FAST training, calibration, and scoring.
- Interact with Teacher Credential Candidates and Mentor Teachers with respect at all times.
- Submit all required documentation digitally through TK20.
Appointment is contingent on budget and enrollment considerations and subject to the order of assignment provisions in the CSU‑CFA collective bargaining agreement. No work‑visa sponsorship is available for temporary faculty.
CompensationSalary is commensurate with qualifications and experience within the CSU salary range for Class Code 2358 (Academic Year Lecturers). A Master's‑degree holder typically earns $5,507–$6,677 per month for full‑time (15 WTUs); part‑time salaries are adjusted proportionally.
Anticipated SemesterThe temporary faculty pool remains open continuously; positions fill as needed. The pool may include up to several part‑time lecturers. Holders remain in the pool for two academic terms, after which reapplication is required.
Required QualificationsEducation
- Clear Multiple Subject credential plus 24 ECE units or a PK‑3 credential.
- Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education or a closely related field.
Individuals applying to coach bilingual credential candidates must also hold a Bilingual Authorization or BCLAD and be fluent in Spanish or Hmong.
Experience
Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. Review may begin as early as June 15, 2026 for a Fall 2026 assignment.
