The Department of Political Science at Fresno State serves approximately 230 majors in the undergraduate program and 40 graduate students in the NASPAA‑accredited public administration program. Faculty are committed to teaching, research, and community engagement.
Position Summary- Introduction to American Government and Institutions, including content on California government.
- Other courses as needed to fulfill educational goals—such as Modern Politics, Public Policy, California Government, or Comparative Politics.
- Prepare, deliver, conduct, proctor, and grade lectures, office hours, homework, quizzes, class projects, midterm, and final exams.
- Ensure all classes are offered and meet as scheduled throughout the semester, in the assigned mode (asynchronous, synchronous, in‑person, or hybrid).
- Adhere to university and system‑wide policies per Academic Policy Manual 306, paragraph 2.
Appointment is contingent upon budget and enrollment considerations and subject to the order of assignment provisions in the collective bargaining agreement between CSU and the California Faculty Association. Only eligibility to work in the United States is required; temporary faculty are not sponsored for work visas.
CompensationSalary commensurate with qualifications and experience. For temporary faculty with a master’s degree, monthly salary ranges from $5,507 to $6,677 when teaching full time (15 WTUs). Salaries are adjusted based on WTUs assigned per academic term.
Semesters- Fall 2026:
Aug 19 2026 – Dec 22 2026 - Spring 2027:
Jan 15 2027 – May 26 2027
Positions may be filled as needed. The temporary faculty pool remains for two academic terms; candidates who remain in the pool beyond that time must reapply.
Required Qualifications- Education:
Master’s degree in Political Science with an emphasis in American Politics (or a closely related field). - Experience:
Demonstrated commitment to working effectively with diverse faculty, staff, and students; experience teaching American Government or related college courses at the collegiate level.
- Commitment to teaching excellence at the undergraduate level, demonstrated through prior teaching experiences and evaluations.
- Successful undergraduate teaching experience, including in California.
- Ph.D. in Political Science preferred.
- Cover letter addressing qualifications and courses you are qualified to teach.
- Curriculum vitae.
- Names and contact information of at least three professional references.
- Unofficial transcripts from all relevant educational programs.
- At least one syllabus for a recently taught class (American or California Government).
