The Department of Philosophy offers students a general Philosophy Major, a Pre-Law Option, and a Religious Studies Option, as well as minors in Philosophy, Peace and Conflict Studies, and Middle East Studies.
Position SummaryThe department seeks qualified candidates to teach undergraduate courses such as:
- PHIL 120:
Contemporary Conflicts of Morals - Other courses as determined by the department to fulfill educational goals.
Temporary faculty members are responsible for adherence to and implementation of university and system-wide policies as directed per Academic Policy Manual 306, paragraph 2.
- Preparation, delivery, and grading of lectures, office hours, homework assignments, quizzes, class projects, and exams.
- Submission of all classes on schedule in the assigned mode (asynchronous, synchronous, in-person, or hybrid).
Appointments are contingent upon budget and enrollment considerations and subject to the “Order of Work” provisions in the collective bargaining agreement.
CompensationCommensurate with qualifications and experience within the CSU Salary Schedule (Class Code 2358). Salary ranges are $5,507–$6,677 per month for a full-time course load (15 WTUs). Actual monthly salary will be adjusted based on assigned WTUs during each term.
Anticipated Semester & Pool DetailsThe temporary faculty pool is continuously open and may be filled on a semester-by-semester basis. Applicants must be available to start on short notice. The pool remains in place for two academic terms; reapplication is required thereafter.

Aug 19, 2026 – Dec 22, 2026 - Spring 2027:
Jan 15, 2027 – May 26, 2027
- Education:
Master’s degree in Philosophy, Religious Studies, or a closely related field. - Experience:
Demonstrated commitment to working effectively with diverse faculty, staff, and students.
- Ph.D. in Philosophy or Religious Studies preferred for upper-division courses.
- Commitment to teaching excellence at the undergraduate level (evidence through previous teaching experience and evaluations).
- Successful undergraduate teaching experience.
