Position: .CalWORKs Student Assistant - Coastline College 2025/2026 Academic Year

Job Summary

Student Assistants perform a variety of tasks in designated departments, ranging from unskilled to skilled or specialized. Assignments are designed to fit the student’s academic schedule and career goals. Work is supervised and may involve manual, clerical, or public‑contact duties.

Representative Duties (by Level)
  • Student Assistant I – Entry Level/Semi‑skilled
    :
    Standardized, routine tasks under immediate supervision; no prior experience required.
  • Student Assistant II – Intermediate/Advanced
    :
    Moderate responsibility, general supervision; requires at least one year of same assignment experience.
  • Student Assistant III – Specialist/Lead
    :
    Broad skill set, independent judgment, may supervise lower‑level assistants; requires at least two years of same assignment experience.
Education and Experience
  • Student Assistant I:
    Little or no prior experience or education required.
  • Student Assistant II
    :
    Some previous knowledge, experience, or education required.
  • Student Assistant III
    :
    Prior experience, education, or specialized skills required.
Skills & Competencies
  • Ability to balance work and studies.
  • Independent judgment and decision‑making as appropriate to level.
  • Strong communication and customer‑service skills.
Qualifications
  • Must be enrolled in current semester classes and have federal work‑study approval.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice as part of the student population.
  • Must comply with all legal and district requirements, including background verification and eligibility to work in the United States.
Work Hours & Conditions

Up to 19.5 hours per week during fall and spring semesters; up to 28 hours per week outside those semesters. Students must not hold additional district employment in the same fiscal year. Attendance is essential.

Benefits

No fringe benefits or holiday pay. Employment is at‑will with no entitlement to classified status.
