Key Responsibilities

The successful applicant will provide instruction in a full range of art courses.

Responsibilities include:

  • Teaching at off‑campus sites, day or evening classes, weekend classes, large classes, distant learning, and multiple teaching methodologies.
  • Participation in student recruitment and articulation of transfer programs for the Visual and Performing Arts department.
  • Maintaining subject matter currency.
  • Developing and revising curriculum.
  • Using computer and multimedia technology.
  • Participating collegially in departmental, college, and discipline‑specific professional activities.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree with a major related to the subject of the course taught, and either:
    • (A) Thirty hours or two semester units of coursework or classwork in understanding the needs of older adults taken at an accredited institution; or
    • (B) One year of professional experience working with older adults.
  • OR
  • Associate degree with a major related to the subject of the course taught; and two years of occupational experience related to the subject of the course taught; and sixty hours or four semester units of coursework or classwork in understanding the needs of older adults taken at an accredited institution.
  • Equivalent qualifications may be judged as equal; applicants who feel they possess such qualifications must submit an Application for Equivalence form.
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
  • All degrees and credits must be from accredited institutions; any degree from a country other than the United States must be evaluated by an accredited evaluation service.
Knowledge & Abilities
  • Broad preparation and depth of knowledge in the discipline.
  • Ability to work effectively and harmoniously with colleagues in an environment that promotes innovation, teaching, learning, and service to a diverse student population.
  • Ability to work with students with a wide range of skills, motivations, academic, and vocational goals.
  • Ability to develop curriculum, including curriculum delivered via different modalities.
  • Ability to participate in recruitment and articulation activities with local schools, colleges, and universities.
  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to maintain subject matter currency.
  • Ability to assess student learning outcomes.
  • Knowledge of computers and willingness to explore new technologies that would benefit the program.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to the California community college mission.
