The Department of Political Science at Fresno State offers undergraduate and graduate programs and emphasizes balanced teaching, research, and public service.
Position SummaryQualified candidates will teach undergraduate courses such as:
- Introduction to American Government and Institutions (including California government content)
- Other classes as needed:
Modern Politics, Public Policy, California Government, or Comparative Politics
Temporary faculty members are responsible for adherence to university policies (ACPP 306 paragraph
2) and for preparing, delivering, administering, and grading lectures, office hours, assignments, quizzes, projects, and exams. All classes must be offered and meet as scheduled throughout the semester in the mode assigned (asynchronous, synchronous, in‑person, or hybrid).
Appointment is contingent upon budget and enrollment considerations and follows the “Order of Work” in the collective bargaining agreement. Appointees must demonstrate eligibility to work in the United States; the university does not sponsor work visas for temporary faculty.
CompensationSalary is commensurate with qualifications within the CSU Salary Schedule Class Code 2358. For lecturers with a Master’s degree, monthly pay ranges from $5,507 to $6,677 for full‑time (15 WTUs). Starting salaries are usually at or near the minimum and are adjusted based on WTUs assigned.
Anticipated SemesterThe pool is continuously open and positions are filled as needed. The pool remains for two academic terms; applicants must reapply beyond that period.

Master’s degree in Political Science with an emphasis in American Politics (or a closely related field).
ExperienceReview of applications continues on a rolling basis as positions open. The review may begin as early as June 15, 2026 for Fall 2026 assignments.
