Temporary Faculty Pool – Lecturer in Political Science Department Overview

The Department of Political Science at Fresno State offers undergraduate and graduate programs and emphasizes balanced teaching, research, and public service.

Position Summary

Qualified candidates will teach undergraduate courses such as:

  • Introduction to American Government and Institutions (including California government content)
  • Other classes as needed:
    Modern Politics, Public Policy, California Government, or Comparative Politics
Instructor Responsibility

Temporary faculty members are responsible for adherence to university policies (ACPP 306 paragraph
2) and for preparing, delivering, administering, and grading lectures, office hours, assignments, quizzes, projects, and exams. All classes must be offered and meet as scheduled throughout the semester in the mode assigned (asynchronous, synchronous, in‑person, or hybrid).

Conditional Appointment

Appointment is contingent upon budget and enrollment considerations and follows the “Order of Work” in the collective bargaining agreement. Appointees must demonstrate eligibility to work in the United States; the university does not sponsor work visas for temporary faculty.

Compensation

Salary is commensurate with qualifications within the CSU Salary Schedule Class Code 2358. For lecturers with a Master’s degree, monthly pay ranges from $5,507 to $6,677 for full‑time (15 WTUs). Starting salaries are usually at or near the minimum and are adjusted based on WTUs assigned.

Anticipated Semester

The pool is continuously open and positions are filled as needed. The pool remains for two academic terms; applicants must reapply beyond that period.

  • Fall 2026:
    August 19, 2026 – December 22, 2026
  • Spring 2027:
    January 15, 2027 – May 26, 2027
Required Qualifications Education

Master’s degree in Political Science with an emphasis in American Politics (or a closely related field).

Experience
  • Demonstrated commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Teaching experience in American Government or related college courses at the collegiate level.
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Commitment to teaching excellence, evidenced through prior teaching experiences, evaluations, or other evidence.
  • Successful teaching experience at the undergraduate level.
  • Experience teaching American Government in California.
  • Ph.D. in Political Science (preferred).
