Overview

Philosophy Instructor, Part‑time Adjunct Pool – East Kern, Rising Scholars Education Program

Location:

CC – East Kern, Edwards/California City/Tehachapi (Rising Scholars), CA

Salary: $67.00 hourly (may vary based on assignment and LHE formula). Job Type: Temporary – Adjuncts.

Responsibilities
  • Provide instruction in a full range of philosophy courses.
  • Participate in student recruitment and articulation of transfer programs for the Social Sciences department.
  • Maintain subject‑matter currency; develop and revise curriculum.
  • Use computer and multimedia technology in instruction.
  • Participate collegially in departmental, college, and discipline‑specific professional activities.
  • Teach using multiple methodologies: day, evening, or weekend classes; large classes; distance learning; and classes for incarcerated students.
Qualifications
  • Master's in Philosophy; or
    • Bachelor's in Philosophy and Master’s in Humanities or Religious Studies; or
    • Valid credential authorizing full‑time teaching of Philosophy at the California Community College level; or
    • Equivalent education, experience, or accomplishments judged as equal to the stated minimum qualifications.
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse backgrounds of community college students.
  • Degrees and credits must be from accredited institutions; non‑U.S. degrees must be evaluated by an approved service.
Knowledge & Abilities
  • Work effectively with colleagues and students in an inclusive environment.
  • Develop curriculum across different modalities.
  • Engage in recruitment and articulation activities with local schools and colleges.
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Maintain subject‑matter currency and assess student learning outcomes.
  • Use computers and adapt new technologies for the program.
  • Commitment to the California community college mission.
