Temporary Faculty Pool – University Coach (Supervisor), Multiple Subject & Single Subject Teaching Credential Programs
The Department of Curriculum and Instruction offers courses for the preparation and professional development of PreK‑12 teachers in both the Multiple Subject (elementary) and Single Subject (secondary) Credential Programs. The department also hosts two master’s programs and two advanced certificate programs – educational technology and research methods.
Position SummaryThe University Coach (Supervisor) is a faculty member who oversees Teacher Credential Candidates for the Multiple Subject and/or Single Subject Credential Programs. As a liaison between the university and cooperating schools, the coach provides culturally responsive instruction, mentorship, and supervision for pre‑service student teachers and interns in accordance with California Teaching Commission and Kremen School of Education and Human Development accreditation requirements.
InstructorResponsibilities
Temporary faculty members are responsible for adherence to and implementation of university policies as outlined in the Academic Policy Manual. They prepare, deliver, proctor, and grade lectures, office hours, homework, quizzes, projects, midterm and final exams.
Coach Responsibilities- Meet with Mentor Teachers for an orientation to review course requirements and discuss expectations, roles, and co‑teaching during the first two weeks of the semester.
- Make regular visits to the school site to meet with Teacher Candidates, Mentor Teachers, administrators, or observe candidates. Visits include small‑group, individual, or virtual discussions to review pertinent information.
- Complete a minimum of six formal lesson observations in TK20 using scripted field notes or an observation rubric based on the California Teacher Performance Expectations. At least four of these must be in‑person; the remainder may be synchronous or asynchronous video.
- Maintain communication with the Teacher Candidate and Mentor Teacher throughout the semester, providing documented feedback on growth and progress.
- Review lesson plans and reflections and provide continuous feedback.
- Assist the Teacher Candidate in applying current teaching methods, materials, and resources.
- Use effective questioning and coaching strategies to build the candidate’s confidence and self‑assessment skills.
- Document areas for improvement and, if needed, notify the Program Coordinator or Department Chair.
- Support the candidate’s basic, emotional, and mental health needs, notifying the program coordinator and department chair if concerns arise. Familiarity with Fresno State Student Health and Counseling Center resources is required.
- Evaluate the Teacher Candidate’s Site Visitation Project or Teaching Sample Project and provide remediation as needed.
- Formally evaluate the Teacher Candidate during a triad meeting at least twice per semester.
- Assist the Teacher Candidate with meeting the Teaching Performance Expectations and assigning a CR/NC grade through People Soft/My Fresno State .
- Attend mandatory program events, trainings, and obtain reliability as a rater.
- Uphold Fresno State’s Principles of Community when interacting with candidates and mentor teachers.
- Submit all documentation digitally through TK20.
Appointments are contingent upon budget and enrollment considerations and are governed by the collective bargaining agreement between CSU and the California Faculty Association.
CompensationSalary is commensurate with qualifications and experience within the established salary range. For Temporary Faculty with a Master’s degree, the monthly salary ranges from $5,507 to $6,677 when teaching full time (15 WTUs). Salaries may be adjusted based on the number of WTUs assigned.

- Graduate degree in education or a closely related field.
- Clear Multiple Subject or Single Subject credential (e.g., Agriculture, Art, English, Math, Music, Physical Education, Science, Social Science, Spanish, French) per CCTC guidelines.
