Temporary Faculty Pool – Lecturer in Sociology Position Summary
The department seeks qualified candidate(s) to teach undergraduate courses such as:
- SOC 1:
Intro to Sociology - SOC 3:
Critical Thinking about Society - SOC 111:
Race & Ethnicity - SOC 125:
Social Science Statistics - SOC 130W:
Contemporary Social Issues (Writing Course) - or other classes that may be identified as needed to fulfill educational goals of current students
Temporary faculty members are responsible for adhering to university and system-wide policies. Responsibilities include preparation, delivery, conduct, proctoring, and grading of lectures, office hours, homework assignments, quizzes, class projects, and exams. All classes must be offered as scheduled throughout the semester, in the assigned mode (asynchronous, synchronous, in‑person, or hybrid).
CompensationSalary ranges are established by the CSU Salary Schedule (Class Code = 2358 for Academic Year Lecturers). For a Master’s degree holder, the range is $5,507-6,677 per month for full‑time (15 WTUs). Starting salaries usually begin at or near the minimum of the range and are adjusted based on the number of WTUs assigned per term.
Anticipated SemesterThe temporary faculty pool is continuously open and positions are filled as needed based on enrollment and funding. The pool lasts for two academic terms; applicants may remain after reapplying. Current semesters include:

August 19 - December 22, 2026 - Spring 2027:
January 15 - May 26, 2027
Education
: A Master’s degree in Sociology or a related field from an accredited institution.
Demonstrated commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Preferred Qualifications- A PhD in Sociology or a related field.
- Commitment to teaching excellence at the undergraduate level, demonstrated through prior teaching experiences and evaluations.
- Successful teaching experience at the undergraduate level.
