Temporary Faculty Pool - Lecturer in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at California State University, Fresno offers four rigorous, high‑quality degree programs in Biochemistry, Chemistry, and related fields, preparing students for careers in research, industry, and education.

Position Summary

The successful applicant may teach chemistry and biochemistry, as well as high‑enrollment general education courses for the department. We are interested in candidates qualified to teach lecture and laboratory using high‑impact practices in the following areas:

  • General chemistry
  • Analytical chemistry
  • Inorganic chemistry
  • Organic chemistry
  • Biochemistry
  • Physical chemistry
  • Interfacing courses between chemistry and biochemistry
Instructor Responsibility

Temporary faculty members are responsible for adherence to and implementation of university and system‑wide policies as directed per applicable regulations. Responsibilities include preparation, delivery, proctoring, and grading of lectures, office hours, homework assignments, quizzes, class projects, and midterm and final exams. All classes must be offered and meet as scheduled throughout the entire semester in the mode specified (asynchronous, synchronous, in‑person, or hybrid).

Appointment

Appointment is contingent upon budget and enrollment considerations and subject to the order of assignment provisions in the collective bargaining agreement between California State University and the California Faculty Association. The “Order of Work” requires courses be assigned in order, starting with tenure‑line faculty and ending with new lecturer appointees.

Compensation

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience within the established salary range for Class Code 2358 (Academic Year Lecturers). For temporary faculty with a master’s degree, the range is $5,507–$6,677 per month when teaching full time (15 WTUs). Actual monthly salary is adjusted based on the number of WTUs assigned per term.

Anticipated Semester

The temporary faculty pool is continuously open and positions are filled as needed based on student enrollment and funding. The pool remains in place for two academic terms; those wishing to remain beyond that time must re‑apply.

  • Fall 2026:
    August 19, 2026 – December 22, 2026
  • Spring 2027:
    January 15, 2027 – May 26, 2027
Required Qualifications

Education: A master’s degree or higher in chemistry, biochemistry, or a closely related field from an accredited institution.

Experience: Demonstrated commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Commitment to teaching excellence at the undergraduate level, demonstrated through prior teaching experience and evaluations or other evidence.
  • Successful teaching experience at the undergraduate or graduate level.
