Position Overview
The Department of Educational Leadership seeks students as Graduate Assistants. Appointments are contingent upon adequate funding and departmental discretion. Assignments will vary by semester and are dependent on departmental needs. No guarantee of employment from semester to semester can be made.
Appointment Dates- Fall 2026:
August 19, 2026 – December 23, 2026 - Spring 2027:
January 19, 2027 – May 26, 2027
Students can work up to 20 hours per week in the GA role.
- 1 unit is equivalent to 2.66 hours per week (40 hours / 15 units).
- Maximum of 6 units (or not to exceed 7.50 total WTU’s in one semester), which equals 20 hours per week.
- Provide professional non‑teaching assistance to faculty.
- Assist with research and practical experience related to advanced study.
- Supervise students in a classroom, workshop, or laboratory (final responsibility vested with faculty).
- Provide training to students in the use of equipment or other resources.
- Assist faculty with research and preparation of course materials.
- Participate in evaluation of students' work.
- Provide tutoring to students.
- Develop processes and strategies to foster engagement with the Ed.D. Program community, including students, alumni, and prospective students.
- Collaborate with the Program Advisor to create a system for tracking alumni and identifying opportunities for connection.
- Coordinate alumni speaker webinars and other social events; identify alumni and gather information for the program website and social media.
- Assist in identifying potential community partners.
- Determine needs of alumni and offer resources.
- Minimum GPA of 3.0; GPA of 3.5 or higher preferred.
- International students must have a TOEFL score of 600 or better.
- Enrolment in at least 6 units (three graduate units) or two applicable program courses for the semester.
- Demonstrated commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse ethnic, cultural, or socioeconomic backgrounds.
- For those who have previously held a TA position at Fresno State, peer and student evaluations will be considered.
- Earned bachelor’s degree.
- Enrollment in the HEAL master’s program at Fresno State.
- Experience in higher education and/or student affairs.
- Experience developing and delivering surveys using Google Forms and Qualtrics.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with Google Suite and Microsoft Office.
- Understanding of social justice and equity issues in higher education.
- Desire to develop student affairs professional competencies.
- Interest in supporting graduate student success.
- Experience analyzing and delivering reports on survey data.
- Experience using Mailchimp and Canvas online software.
Salary is based on weighted teaching units assigned. The monthly salary is calculated accordingly. Each department has a salary scale; refer to the CSU salary schedule (Class Code = 2355 for Graduate Assistants).
