Temporary Faculty Pool – Lecturer in City and Regional Planning

Department Overview

The Department of City and Regional Planning seeks qualified candidates to serve as temporary faculty.

Position Summary

The department seeks qualified candidate(s) to teach undergraduate courses such as:

  • CRP 115:
    Urban Design
  • CRP 135:
    Planning Law & Administration
  • CRP 150A:
    Community Plan Making – A
  • CRP 150B:
    Community Plan Making – B
  • or other classes that may be identified as needed to fulfill educational goals of current students
Instructor Responsibilities

Temporary faculty members are responsible for adherence to university policies and for the preparation, delivery, conducting, proctoring, and grading (as appropriate) of lectures, office hours, homework assignments, quizzes, class projects, midterm and final exams. All classes must be offered and meet as scheduled throughout the semester, in the mode assigned and listed in the schedule (asynchronous, synchronous, in‑person, or hybrid).

Conditional Appointment

Appointments are contingent upon budget and enrollment considerations and are subject to the order of assignment provisions in the collective bargaining agreement between California State University and the California Faculty Association. Eligibility to work in the United States is required; the university does not sponsor temporary faculty for work visas.

Compensation

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience and is within the CSU salary schedule (Class Code 2358). For temporary faculty with a Master’s degree, the monthly range is $5,507 – $6,677 for full‑time teaching (15 WTUs). Starting salaries are usually near the minimum of the range and will be adjusted based on the number of WTUs assigned.

Anticipated Semester

The temporary faculty pool is continuously open and positions are filled as needed based on enrollment and funding. Appointments are typically made just before the start of an academic term. The pool will remain in place for two terms; those wishing to remain beyond that must reapply.

  • Fall 2026 – August 19, 2026 to December 22, 2026
  • Spring 2027 – January 15, 2027 to May 26, 2027
Required Qualifications
  • A Master’s degree in City and Regional Planning or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
Experience
  • Demonstrated commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Successful undergraduate teaching experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Evidence of teaching excellence at the undergraduate level (evaluations or other evidence).
  • Experience in a closely related discipline.
