The Department of Social Work Education Title IV-E Child Welfare Education Program is seeking Instructional Student Assistant (ISA) applicants. ISA will assist with grading, tutoring, mentoring, course content development, and providing classroom support for Social Work 278.

Hours:

0-20 hours per week.

Appointment Dates

    August 19, 2026 - December 22, 2026;
    August 22, 2026

    January 15, 2027 - May 22, 2027;
    January 20, 2027
Job Duties
  • Maintain/Submit students’ records/grades
  • Evaluate student assignments
  • Help prepare course materials, learning guides, and classroom activities
  • Support classroom instruction related to child welfare practice under faculty direction
  • Assist with case-based learning, skill development activities, and applied exercises
  • Support content related to trauma‑informed practice, permanency planning, mandated reporting, and child welfare policy
  • Assist with the administration of examinations as directed by the faculty
  • Attend ISA orientation at the beginning of each semester
  • Assist in facilitating small‑group discussions and activities
  • Attend meetings scheduled by faculty for briefing, coordination, and discussion of course content and materials
  • Participate in programmatic assessment procedures as required
  • Perform other assignments supportive of university instruction, as assigned by supervising faculty
Qualifications
  • Admission to a Master's program as of Fall 2026, or in a Doctoral degree program at California State University, Fresno, and in good academic standing
  • Enrollment in at least 6 units for the semester (or as required to maintain eligible student assistant status)
  • Demonstrated satisfactory progress toward degree completion
  • Ability to relate well with others within the academic environment, with the ability or potential to assist with instruction and support of students
  • Demonstrated commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds
Preferred Qualifications
  • Enrollment in or completion of coursework toward a graduate degree in Counseling, Child Development, Psychology, or a related field
  • Communication skills appropriate to a classroom or seminar support setting
  • Prior experience (professional, field placement, or coursework‑based) in public child welfare, social services, family services, or a closely related area of practice
  • Ability and willingness to work with learning management systems (e.g., Canvas) and standard office productivity software
Instructional Student Assistant Additional Information
  • Salary:
    Starts at $17.86 per hour
  • Assignments:
    Assignments are made by Department Chair or Program Coordinator after consultation with the candidate
  • Duties Form:
    Per the Collective Bargaining Agreement for Unit 11, a Duties Form (Appendix E of the CBA) will be completed between the Department and Academic Student Employee
  • Instructional Student Assistant positions are for matriculated students at Fresno State
  • Students are limited to 20‑hours of part‑time work on campus
